location

View of Frankenthal from Goldbacher Berg

Frankenthal is located in Upper Lusatia , near the historic Meissen border. The place extends over 2.5 kilometers in a valley basin along a small stream from northwest to southeast. It borders in the west on Massenei , in the northwest on Bretnig , in the north on Hauswalde , in the northeast on Rammenau , in the southeast on Goldbach and in the south on Großharthau . The closest cities are Bischofswerda , Großröhrsdorf , Pulsnitz and Stolpen .

geography

The subsoil of the village hall consists of mighty Pleistocene deposits, the loamy , sandy and gravelly material of which has been excavated in several pits.

The most striking elevation on the parish corridor at 335 meters is the Pfarrberg not far from the town center, from which there is a broad view over the country, to Rammenau and Bischofswerda and the Lusatian mountains . The parish linden tree was planted here in 1783 , which is also reflected in the community's seal. In the 1980s, a “sister” was planted across from it in order to preserve the landmark for the future.

The Dorfbach rises at the north-western end of the village and flows into the Gruna , which comes from Rammenau, near the mill pond . To the north-west of the village is the source of the Schwarzer Röder .

The protected landscape areas of Westlausitz and Massenei extend into the Frankenthal district. The LSG Westlausitz is located east of the main street. To the west, the area of LSG Massenei in the Frankenthal district runs in an arc around the village center from the cross street to the Frankenthal – Hauswalde local road.

Settlement structure

Like many settlements in the eastern colonization , Frankenthal is a typical Waldhufendorf village . The Gässel is a row of houses laid out between 1784 and 1789, which extends north of the floodplain of the Dorfbach near its mouth. South of the Grunabachaue lies the Viebig , another row of houses built between 1846 and 1850 on former municipal land that extends along the local road to Goldbach. Another village extension is also located on the edge of the Grunabachaue. Its name Beigut refers to the former property of the Frankenthaler Rittergut.

On the way between the manor and the village, the avenue , Dominial or Hofehäusler settled down. Other small, often densely packed houses of the threshing and smallhouses fill the Bachaue below the two and three-sided courtyards .

history

Franconian colonists settled in the area around 1200 . Like other places in the area, Frankenthal is mentioned for the first time in the Upper Lusatian border document , which was signed by King Wenzel of Bohemia on May 7, 1241 and defined the border between Upper Lusatia, which is subject to the Bohemian crown , and the diocese of Meißen . The spellings Vrankental , Frankintal and Vrankendale are to be interpreted as "Frankensiedlung in the valley floor". Later the spellings Franckental (1443), Franckentahl (1592) and finally Frankenthal are found .

Buildings, institutions and associations

church

church

The church is in an elevated position in the center of the village on Rammenauer Straße. It was initially only built as a chapel in the first half of the 14th century. Your first mention she finds in 1495 in the diocese of Meissen matrikel . In 1607 it was given its present form when the previous building was extended by a third to the east. The church will have a wooden ceiling, a gallery and will be painted. In 1702 the floor of the church was laid with table stones. Further changes to the interior and exterior followed in the years 1729 to 1732 by Heinrich von Bünau. The manor owner donated an altar and a pulpit to the church and had the tower on the west side replaced by a new one that was similar to that of the nearby Goldbacher church. On the south wall there are grave monuments of family members of the manor rule from the 17th and 18th centuries.

additional

In the immediate vicinity of the church, directly on Dorfstrasse, is the Frankenthal Evangelical Primary School . It was founded at the beginning of the 2002/2003 school year on the initiative of committed young citizens sponsored by the Evangelical School Association in the Bautzen district. V. reopened. The building was erected in 1893 after the old school building on Rammenauer Strasse no longer offered enough space. With the beginning of the summer vacation 2008, the school was renovated and expanded for all-day classes. Its inauguration followed on February 23, 2009.

The Pusteblume day care center , which was opened in 1958 as a harvest kindergarten and is run by the Arbeiterwohlfahrt , is located in Niederdorf an der Alten Straße . Their domicile is the former Gasthof Zur Börse , in which the municipality had a kindergarten and after-school care set up in 1957.

The brick pond fed by the water of the Schwarzen Röder

Since 1972, citizens of the community have volunteered as part of the national economic mass initiative to convert the brick pond on the upper reaches of the Schwarzen Röder into a swimming pool and set up the rural youth stadium with an athletics facility. The facility was inaugurated on October 7, 1977.

The stadium and gymnasium are still used by both the school and SG Frankenthal , which was founded in 1948 . The pedigree poultry association, founded in 1912, also invites you to a local show in the gym on the weekend before the first Advent.

Opposite the gym, on the cross street in a converted barn, is the small gallery . It is the domicile of the Frankenthaler Heimat- und Chronikverein . Current exhibitions on the history of Frankenthal have been shown here in loose succession since 2002.
