location

View from Kesselberg to Goldbach

Goldbach is located on an old long-distance traffic route that connected Meissen with Bautzen . Although its course does not correspond to today's federal highway 6 , it nevertheless had the same beneficial effect on the place. The settlement stretches upwards from the Wesenitz in a small side valley about 2 km, crosses a 315 m high watershed and descends into the valley of a tributary of the Grunabach .

history

Goldbach was first mentioned in 1226 next to Weickersdorf and Geißmannsdorf on a return contract from King Ottokar of Bohemia to the diocese of Meißen as Goltbach , which means something like "place on the golden, bright brook". Although a manor is mentioned as early as 1271, no more privileged property can be proven in the Stolpener Amtserbbuch 1559. Around 1588 Goldbach consisted of three farms belonging to a nobleman, which were later combined to form a farm and at the beginning of the 17th century a manor. In 1648 at the latest, the property was added to the Großharthau manor , whose owner called himself "on Harta and Goltbach ". This connection lasted until the 20th century. The last owner was Prince Friedrich Günther von Schwarzburg (1901–1971).

The important colored and luxury paper factory Goldbach has been working on the site of a former pearl mill driven by Wesenitz in the extreme south of the town hallway since 1872. The company, commonly known as Bunte , became a stock corporation in 1892. In 1946 the factory was expropriated . In the late GDR years, the factory was incorporated into the VEB Progress Agricultural Machinery Combine and used as a supplier.

church

Marienkirche

A chapel had stood on an old long-distance route between Dresden and Bautzen since the 13th century. She was Maria consecrated. The name Marienkirche and a wooden figure "Mary with the baby Jesus" (around 1440) bear witness to this patronage . In 1559 the chapel was converted into a hall church. The current church building with a simple hall, flat ceiling and wooden galleries on three sides was consecrated in 1778. A late Gothic portal from a previous building from the 16th century has been preserved on the south side of the church. Between 1992 and 1996 the church was extensively renovated both inside and out.

Zacharias Hildebrandt , student of the famous Gottfried Silbermann , built a rococo organ in 1756 . In 1883, 13 of the 18 registers on two manuals and pedal were replaced in line with the romantic taste of the time. In 1908/09, Friedrich Bayer , whose ancestors came from Weickersdorf, part of the Parochie Goldbach, donated a new organ to be built by the Eule company from Bautzen as op.116 the previously mechanical action was changed to a pneumatic one . The organ has since had 972 sounding pipes and 40 silent pipes in the upper part of the prospectus . In 2008 the Eule company restored the organ.
