The settlements of Kynitzsch ( Upper Sorbian Kinič ) with 40 inhabitants and Neu-Schönbrunn ( Upper Sorbian Nowy Šumborn ) with 24 inhabitants belong to Schönbrunn . Schönbrunn is a forest hoof village . The houses line up along the street, while the plots behind the houses extend into the hallway.

history

From the 13th century on, the border between the Margraviate of Upper Lusatia and the Meissen Monastery , later to the Electorate of Saxony , ran through what is now the municipality . Schönbrunn was first mentioned in 1412 under the name Schönborn and initially consisted of an Upper Lusatian and a Meißen / Saxon district. At the beginning of the 19th century Schönbrunn (Lusatian side) had over 500 inhabitants and Schönbrunn (Meißner side) had over 100 inhabitants. On June 28, 1857, a major fire raged in Schönbrunn. In 1885 the village road from Schönbrunn to Taschendorf and Uhyst am Taucher was expanded to a width of six meters.

In 1902 Schönbrunn was connected to the Kamenz – Bischofswerda railway line . The First World War cost ten residents of Schönbrunn their lives. On April 1, 1935, Schönbrunn (Meissen side) and Kynitzsch were incorporated into Schönbrunn (Lusatian side) (with the district of Neu-Schönbrunn) and the community was renamed Schönbrunn / Lausitz . Due to the Second World War , four houses and a barn burned down in the village, 17 residents lost their lives in the war, 10 remained missing. After the end of the war, the place was occupied by the Red Army . Due to the influx of displaced persons from the eastern regions, the population temporarily increased to 660. The manor of those of Ponikau was expropriated in the course of the land reform and distributed to new farmers . From 1952 the place belonged to the district of Bischofswerda . From 1956, the village's agriculture was forcibly collectivized and the first agricultural production cooperative was founded. By 1975, all of the individual agricultural businesses in the village were merged into the two local cooperatives. In 1965 560 people lived in the village.

On July 1, 1994, Schönbrunn was incorporated into Bischofswerda.
