Spreetal , in Upper Sorbian Sprjewiny Doł , is a municipality in the north of the Saxon district of Bautzen and, as the third largest municipality in the district, is one of the largest municipalities in Saxony. The community is located in the Sorbian settlement area in Upper Lusatia . The seat of the municipal administration is located in the central district of Burgneudorf .
Geography and traffic
The community is located on the Brandenburg border between Spremberg and Hoyerswerda , about 30 km south of Cottbus . The federal road 97 runs through the western part of the municipality as well as the Spreetal district, while the old road between Spremberg and Hoyerswerda runs through the districts of Zerre, Spreewitz, Burgneudorf, Burghammer and Burg. Neustadt is located on State Road 130 between Burgneudorf and Runde on the edge of the Neustädter Heide and north of the western part of the Upper Lusatia military training area .
Except for the Spreetal district, all districts are on the Spree or the Little Spree , which flows back into the Spree near Spreewitz. In addition to the Spree, the municipality is characterized by decades of lignite mining and the surrounding large forest areas. The Spreetaler See , Bernsteinsee and Scheibe Lake of the new Lusatian Lakeland are currently being created from the remaining open -cast mine holes .
Local division
The community consists of seven districts and as of December 31, 2018 has the following inhabitants:
- Castle (Sorbian Bórk) , 336 inhabitants
- Burghammer (Bórkhamor) , 243 inhabitants
- Burgneudorf (Nowa Wjes) , 317 inhabitants
- Neustadt / Spree (Nowe Město) (with the settlements Neustädter Hammer (Hamor) , Döschko (Daški) and Altmühle (Starik) ), 360 inhabitants
- Spreetal (Sprjewiny Doł) , 95 inhabitants
- Spreewitz (Šprjejcy) , 305 inhabitants
- Zerre (Drětwja) , 248 inhabitants
According to another count with eight districts, Spreewitz is divided into the actual place and Spreewitz settlement. The settlement Döschko south of Neustadt is still described by Salomon Gottlob Frentzel as an independent village in 1744 , Altmühle belonged to Mühlrose for a long time .
history
The municipalities Burghammer (with the parts of the municipality, Burg Hammer, Burgneudorf and Spreetal), Neustadt and Spreewitz (with the municipality parts Spreewitz and Zerre) formed on April 1, 1993, the administrative community Burgneudorf that the 1 January 1994 Management Association Burgneudorf was converted. In the course of the municipal area reforms in Saxony, the three municipalities merged on January 1, 1996 to form the municipality of Spreetal, whereby the administrative association was dissolved.
