The Platte Lake , also called Speicher Scheibe , Scheibesee or Scheibe Lake and in Upper Sorbian Šibojski jězor , is a flooded open- cast mine east of Hoyerswerda in Upper Lusatia ( Saxony ). In its place was the village of Scheibe until the mid-1980s, which was dredged over to mine lignite by the Scheibe opencast mine . The flooding began on August 14, 2002 and, according to information from the Lausitzer und Mitteldeutsche Bergbau-Verwaltungsgesellschaft (LMBV), was 70% complete in March 2004. In 2011 the lake on which the municipal boundaries of Spreetal , Lohsa and Hoyerswerda meet was completely flooded.

The dammed body of water is the Kleine Spree .

The Scheibe-See is part of the emerging Lusatian Lakeland and is to be used for recreational purposes like the other open pit lakes in Lusatia . Later it will have five beaches and is already a popular destination for cyclists and inline skaters. It should be noted, however, that the area away from the paths is still at risk of landslides. When the sample was taken in June 2014, the water still had a very low current intermediate pH of 4.3.

Neighboring the Scheibe-See are the municipality of Spreetal with its district of Burg, the municipality of Lohsa and the large district town of Hoyerswerda.
