Nebelschütz , Upper Sorbian , is a municipality in the center of the East Saxon district of Bautzen in Upper Lusatia . She is a member of the administrative association Am Klosterwasser (Zarjadniski zwjazk "Při Klóšterskej wodźe") in the Sorbian settlement area . Two thirds of the population speak Sorbian .
Geography and traffic
The community is located in western Lusatia, around three kilometers east of the city of Kamenz and 20 km northwest of Bautzen, at the point of contact between three natural areas . To the northeast, the relatively flat stretches Oberlausitzer heath and pond region , to the southeast, the gently undulating Oberlausitzer climes the westward Westlausitzer hills and mountains . The Jauer ( Jawora ) flows through the districts of Miltitz and Nebelschütz . It is a small stream that used to be dammed up between the two districts to form a storage basin and, among other things, serves as a fishing area. The A4 can be reached via the S 94 state road and the Burkau connection (approx. 15 km).
history
Nebelschütz was first mentioned in a document in 1304. Two brothers from Nebelschütz are mentioned in a document from the St. Marienstern monastery . Regarding the manorial ownership in Nebelschütz in the 14th and 15th centuries, there are only incomplete records. Originally, the place should have belonged to the wealthy gentlemen von Kamenz in the area . In the interest register of Marienstern from 1374 it is mentioned that the Cistercian women received income from Nebelschütz. The village or at least some goods in the village were sold or pledged several times during the 15th century. As landlords over parts of Nebelschütz u. a. Members of the von Metzradt family and the city of Kamenz are mentioned. At the latest during the first quarter of the 16th century, the monastery had acquired the entire village. St. Marienstern remained the owner of Nebelschütz until the manorial estate was replaced in 1832. That is why the population of the place remained Catholic during the Reformation period.
Nebelschütz has been a member of the administrative association Am Klosterwasser since May 1, 2001 .
Population and language
According to the 2011 census, 1,011 of the 1,196 inhabitants of the municipality were Roman Catholic (84.5%), 48 were Protestant (4%) and 137 belonged to another religious community or no religious community (11.5%).
For his statistics on the Sorbian population in Upper Lusatia, Arnošt Muka determined a population of 271 for the village in the 1880s, including 256 Sorbs (94%) and 15 Germans. Conditional v. a. Due to the influx of resettlers from the former eastern areas, Ernst Tschernik counted a Sorbian-speaking population of only 55.6% in 1956.
