The company EC Flader Feuerlöschgerätefabrik ( Jöhstadt in Saxony) was a manufacturer of fire extinguishers in the early years of motorized commercial vehicles.

history

In 1860, EC Flader founded an agricultural machinery factory and from 1904 it became a factory for fire extinguishing agents. Various fire engines were manufactured, which were mainly given a variety of special equipment. The fire ladder could be extended manually or by an electric motor. The water pump could also be powered by a steam engine. There was also a hose reel and seating for twelve firefighters .

Flader built various fire engines, which were manufactured from 1904 with slow-running wheel hub motors . These could be driven by the front and rear wheels and work according to the main current system. In addition to the top speed of 28 km / h, a good starting force and brake were also guaranteed.

Flader obtained the 176 volt batteries, which were designed for a range of 108 km, from the battery and commercial vehicle manufacturer Hagen in Cologne-Kalk . The chassis were supplied from 1906 by the North German automobile and engine factory ( NAMAG ) from Bremen-Hastedt . Around 1910 the fire engines were also equipped with gasoline engines from Horch from Zwickau in Saxony. After the First World War , components from the Hille-Werke commercial vehicle factory in Dresden-Löbtau were also used. The result was a cross-country vehicle syringe with a water tank of 1,500 liters for a crew of eleven. Other types of crew and equipment for fire engines followed. Until 1939 Flader was still busy with the equipment, new buildings and conversions, as well as repairs of fire engines.

In the GDR the company was continued as VEB Feuerlöschgerätewerk Jöhstadt . In addition to superstructures for fire fighting vehicles, trailer production also took place in the early years, before this was concentrated in the Görlitz fire extinguishing equipment factory in the 1960s . The plant was also the manufacturer of the portable fire pump 8 (TS 8).

Today, the company PF Pumpen und Feuerlöschtechnik GmbH continues to manufacture fire pumps on the Jöhstadt site.
