Fire engines in the GDR

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The development of fire engines in the GDR began in 1949, the year the German Democratic Republic was founded .

H3, H3A, W50

The H3 truck was manufactured in the VEB Horch Automobilwerk Zwickau . The fire-fighting vehicle LF 15 was the first fire-fighting vehicle that was built on this chassis by the VEB Feuerlöschgerätewerk Luckenwalde . The truck production in Zwickau was further developed and at the spring fair in Leipzig it was possible to present the successor model of the H3A as early as 1949 . Fire truck production on this chassis began in 1953. That was also the year in which the standardization of fire trucks began in the GDR. Fire-fighting vehicles (LF 15) were placed on the H3A chassis in the VEB Feuerlöschgerätewerken (FLG) Luckenwalde , Jöhstadt and Görlitz , and in the VEB FLG Luckenwalde rescue vehicle (RTGW), hose truck (SKW 12), command vehicle (KdoW) in the VEB FLG Jöhstadt and Görlitz Fire fighting vehicles (TLF 15), and emergency trucks (ELKW) built in the VEB Horch Automobilwerk Zwickau.

The fire extinguishing equipment works already had a long tradition. The VEB FLG Luckenwalde emerged from the Koebe company , the FLG Görlitz had its origins in the company G. A. Fischer and the predecessor of the FLG Jöhstadt was the company E. C. Flader.

In 1958 the era of the second generation of GDR truck production began. The S4000-1 should also be the basic chassis for the next generation of fire fighting vehicles. The now renamed "VEB Automobilwerk Zwickau" produced chassis for the fire truck LF 16 TS8, the tank fire engine TLF 16, the fire trucks LF 16 chemistry and LF 16 CO2, the equipment vehicle GW 60, the mine rescue vehicle (GEW), the turntable ladders DL 22 and DL 25, the breathing apparatus vehicle (AEW), the rescue equipment vehicle (RTGW), the hose trolley SKW 14 TS8 and the emergency truck (ELKW). From 1960 the production of the chassis was relocated to Werdau in the VEB motor vehicle plant "Ernst Grube" Werdau .

TLF on IFA W50

IFA G5 and IFA H6 trucks were also manufactured in Werdau . They also served as a basic chassis for fire engines. The G5 served as the chassis for the all-terrain tank fire engine (TLF 15) and the workshop vehicle (WstW), the H6 for the rescue vehicle (RTGW) and the gas protection vehicle (GSGW). Special chassis were the prototype N7 for the turntable ladder (DL 30) and the crane ADK V / 5 Panther (KW 5).

With the IFA W50 , the next generation of trucks was born in 1965. It was produced in the VEB IFA Automobilwerk Ludwigsfelde and until 1990 formed the base vehicle of the third generation of fire fighters in the GDR. The fire fighting vehicle (LF 16 TS 8), the tank fire fighting vehicles (TLF 16, TLF 16 GMK and TLF 16.01), the equipment trolley (GW), the turntable ladders DL 30, DL 30 K (basket) and DL 30.01, the hose trolley (SW 30 containers) and the workshop trolley (WStW) set up in VEB FLG Luckenwalde. At the beginning of the 1980s, two aerosol fire-fighting vehicles were built as prototypes on a turntable ladder and a crane chassis.

The rescue vehicle (RTGW) on W50 was an emergency solution. These vehicles were former Post construction crew trucks and were converted by VEB IFA-Karosseriewerk Wilsdruff.

Guarantor, granite, Robur

In addition to this vehicle in the 3 to 4 tonne class, trucks were also built in the former Phenomenon factory in Zittau in the GDR , which were also used to assemble fire fighting vehicles. From 1949, a fire fighting vehicle (LF) was manufactured on a Granit 27 chassis in the VEB “Phenomenon” Zittau, and from 1953 on the Granit 30k chassis . The LF-LKW-STA fire-fighting vehicle followed in 1950 and the LF-LKW-TS8-STA in 1951, and it was not until 1955 that vehicles with built-in fire pumps (the LF 8-TS 8-STA) were built. The manufacturers of the superstructures were VEB FLG Görlitz and VEB FLG Luckenwalde.

From 1962 a generation change also took place in Zittau. The Robur LO 1800 A was born. The chassis of the LO served as the basis for a number of fire service vehicles. In addition to the LF8-TS8-STA, a truck with a built-in centrifugal fire pump , an 8/8 portable pump and a hose transport trailer , ambulances (RTW), command vehicles (KdoW), personnel transport vehicles (MTF) and light foam fire engines (LF8-LS1 / 1) were created.

B 1000

From 1961 a small fire engine (KLF-TS8-STA) was built for the voluntary fire brigades at VEB Barkas-Werke Karl-Marx-Stadt. Other variants of fire fighting vehicles on the B-1000 chassis were the ambulance (RTW), the emergency service vehicle (ADW; today Einsatzleitwagen, ELW), the respiratory protection control vehicle (ASKW) and the advance vehicle (VF).
