Ring kiln of the Fischer pottery Medewitzer Strasse 13
(map)
1st half of the 19th century Round ceramic kiln with four fire openings, as a testimony to the centuries-old tradition of firing by means of coal kilns, which has been largely superseded by the introduction of electric kilns, also in small pottery, is now of rarity as well as of scientific and documentary value, also of importance in terms of technical history.

Round kiln made of bricks with four fire openings (single-chamber oven with over-coupling, firing in the stoke neck in front of the combustion chamber, stoking room and combustion chamber by means of a brick fire wall with an opening under the furnace dome) for the discontinuous firing of the crockery by means of coal firing, masonry reinforced with surrounding iron bands (tension rings). Lateral fire openings with loading equipment can be closed by means of metal slides, segment-arched door opening for the entry of the pottery, however, had to be bricked up with every fire. In the 1990s, the round furnace was still in a ready-to-use condition, but the masonry was already damp due to years of non-use. Pottery founded by Gottfried Leberecht Fischer in 1826 (family business over 6 generations: master potter Gottfried Leberecht Fischer, Friedrich Ehrenreich Fischer, Friedrich Gustav Fischer, Carl Fischer, Werner Fischer, most recently Hans-Joachim Kosmehl, Werner Fischer's son-in-law). Originally the manufacture of tableware for the castle and manor in Gaussig, pottery was rotated freely on the potter's wheel, air-dried, coated with clay glaze and burned in a coal oven. Around 1925, presses for the mechanical production of flower pots in large quantities, which were made for the Sebnitz artificial flower factories after the Second World War, were introduced. Other products: dollhouse crockery, ornamental plant bowls. Pottery destroyed by fire in 1961, production resumed in 1963, after 1970 cessation of machine production of flower pots, concentration again on the production of utility and decorative ceramics by turning free on the potter's wheel and decorative engobe and brush painting. Since 1987 use of an electric shuttle kiln instead of the coal-fired round kiln. Building ensemble originally with a 16 m high chimney to extract the flue gases from the kiln, demolished in 2008. Remaining buildings treated as monuments in the 1990s, but probably not included in the current list of monuments due to the redesign.
