geography

Naundorf is located on the steep northern slope of the Lausitzer Bergland at the foot of the Butterberg , Hoher Hahn and Gickelsberg mountains . The Naundorfer Wasser , a right spring stream or tributary of the Schwarzwasser, flows through the village .

Direct neighboring towns Naundorfs are in the north, starting clockwise Cossern , Gaussig (both also districts of the municipality Doberschau-Gaußig), Neukirch / Lausitz and the community Schmölln related Tröbigau .

The closest cities are Bischofswerda (approx. 9 km), Wilthen (approx. 10 km) and the district town of Bautzen (approx. 13 km). The Saxon state capital Dresden is approx. 40 km away.

history

The place was first mentioned in a document in 1466. Until the early 19th century, the place was influenced by Sorbs , as late as 1884/85, 125 of the 354 inhabitants (35%) were Sorbs , so Naundorf was on the extreme south-western edge of the Sorbian language area. In 1956 Ernst Tschernik counted a Sorbian-speaking population of only 2.7% in the community and a total of 15 speakers, including only three young people. Meanwhile, Sorbian has completely disappeared from everyday local life.

Naundorf was an independent municipality together with Cossern until 1994, before it was incorporated into the municipality of Gaußig, which in turn merged in 1999 with the neighboring municipality of Gnaschwitz-Doberschau to form Doberschau-Gaussig . The former municipality of Naundorf is the only part of Doberschau-Gaußig that does not belong to the Sorbian settlement area for the reasons mentioned above .

In spite of the close ties to Gaussig, for example through church and school, that existed before the parish merger, the parish of Naundorf belonged to the Bischofswerda district from 1952 to 1994 , while Gaussig already belonged to the Bautzen district . This can still be seen today from the strongly differing postcodes (01877 Naundorf and 02633 Gaußig).

Transport and infrastructure

Naundorf is located at State Road 120 . There are three bus stops in town. There are direct bus connections to the district town of Bautzen, to the large district town of Bischofswerda and to Kirschau .

Club life

Local club life is characterized by an independent volunteer fire brigade , a village club and a youth club.
