Black water

Black water source at the Hohen Hahn

Tröbigau is the first village on the upper reaches of the Schwarzwasser , which rises on the parcel of the place. The main source is at the Hohen Hahn, about 200 meters north of its summit at an altitude of 419 meters. Another source is located on the Butterberg, but this arm was moved underground due to agricultural use and emerges at the flow of the Straße des Friedens in Tröbigauer Oberdorf and joins the main arm a few hundred meters later.

The third source is located in the so-called Tocken (derived from Slavic tok = river ) between the Tröbigauer Berg and the Jungfernstein at an altitude of 378 meters. From here it flows south into the upper village and joins the main arm at an altitude of 314 meters just before it flows through Neuschmöllner Straße .

From here the black water flows in a south-westerly direction through the Niederdorf, feeds a larger pond and continues on its way towards Schmölln / OL. In this way it crosses a dam wall with a retention basin, which was built in 1958 after a major flood.

The Schwarzwasser used to operate several mills in Tröbigau.

The first indirect place name Tröbigau is dated to 1374, in the form of the mention of Henczil de Trebechow in the interest register of the St. Marienstern monastery . The first direct name of the place as Drebekow is 1412. There are various theories about the origin of the place name, most of which assume a Slavic (Sorbian) name origin, either derived from trejechow , which would roughly mean the place of the pitch breakers , or as a derivation from the personal name Trebech . Another theory suggests a German origin based on the word components Tröbe ( shaft grater ) and Aue , which could fit the image of the landscape around Tröbigau.

Remaining hole of the Opitz break in Tröbigau Niederdorf

In 1840, granite mining began in several quarries around the town, which today is evidenced by numerous remaining holes, mostly filled with water. Traditional sources of income for the Tröbigauer were thus primarily the stonemason and quarry trades, as well as linen weaving and agriculture. In 1960 the Tröbigau farmers merged to form the LPG Schwarzwasserquell , which eleven years later was incorporated into the LPG "Karl Marx" Schmölln / Putzkau .

From 1839 to 1994 Tröbigau was an independent municipality before it merged voluntarily with the neighboring municipalities of Schmölln and Putzkau in the newly formed community association Schmölln-Putzkau .

The adjacent table shows the population development of Tröbigau over the past 200 years. Until the middle of the 20th century there was a steady increase in population, which reached its peak with around 670 inhabitants at the end of the 1940s. The increase during this time was intensified by the influx of refugees from areas east of the Neisse. Since then, a slow decline in the population has been observed, which accelerated especially after the political change in 1990 due to the departure of young people due to the labor market situation in Upper Lusatia, as well as a decline in the birth rate. Today's population is roughly the same as in 1900.

Religions

The place is traditionally evangelical-Lutheran , but does not have its own church, but is parish to Schmölln / OL. Members of other Christian communities are also at home here. However, the majority of today's local population is non-denominational.

language

Most of the residents of Tröbigau speak a form of the Upper Lusatian dialect to varying degrees. According to Hans Klecker , it is classified as the northwestern variant of the Upper Lusatian dialect . The Tröbigau language has some terms that are apparently only known here, for example gäälchn for "sharp, jerky" and others.

According to the Upper Lusatian dictionary, the dialect name for Tröbigau (de) Träbche , in today's local colloquial language, however, the articleless form Träbchen is more common. Inhabitants of Tröbigau refer to themselves as Träbcher .

Transport and infrastructure

Tröbigau is on the S 120 state road. There are 2 bus stops in the village. There are direct bus connections to the district town of Bautzen and the large district town of Bischofswerda. In the period before 1989 Tröbigau had a well-developed infrastructure, consisting of several shops, restaurants, a school and a kindergarten. This almost completely collapsed after the fall of the Wall, only a small inn on Neuschmöllner Strasse is left of it.

Club life

There is a bowling club with its own modern track system based in the village . The bowling club organizes a prize and advertising bowling every year.
