The son of a line weaver from Burkau completed his training at the Bautzen teachers' college from 1858 to 1862 . From 1862 he worked as a teacher in Elstra , Belmsdorf and Oberputzkau, among others . Having come to the Dresden region in 1870, Leßke was cantor and bell ringer of the Christ Church in Deuben from 1876 . In 1893 he was appointed school director in Niedergorbitz , which is now a part of Dresden . He held this office until his death in 1904. Leßke is buried in the old Anne cemetery.

In the years 1892, 1897 and 1903 the three volumes of the articles on the history and description of the Plauen reason were published , which together comprise about 2000 pages and are still important works of local history research in the region. In it he mainly describes the history, ownership and administrative conditions, employment and population development of the villages in Plauenschen Grund and the Döhlen Basin along the Weißeritz . In 1896 he published the articles on the history and description of the villages of Ober- and Niedergorbitz, Wölfnitz, Pennrich, Naußlitz and Neunimptsch with similar topics.

In his honor the streets of Gorbitz (since 1921) and Deuben (since 1946) bear his name. A plaque on the Niedergorbitz school building commemorates Leßke.
