Christel Hoffmann (born April 19, 1936 in Burkau ) is a German theater scholar and pedagogue .

Life

After studying theater studies at the Leipzig Theater School (1954–1958), she was initially a dramaturge at the Landestheater Neustrelitz and at the municipal theaters in Leipzig. In the 1960s and 1970s, she was chief dramaturge at the Theater der Freund in Berlin. In 1973 she completed her doctorate at the Humboldt University in Berlin with a thesis on the history and historical references of children's and youth theater in the GDR. In the early 1980s, she moved to the Pionierpalast in Berlin as a specialist methodologist for performing games. From 1986 Hoffmann worked as a research assistant in the office for international issues of the children's and youth theater in the GDR and thus became the last director of the GDR ASSITEJ . From 1990 to 2001 she was an employee of the Children's and Youth Theater Center in the Federal Republic of Germany and headed the Berlin office and numerous projects.

From 1990 to 1994 she held teaching positions at the University of the Arts in Berlin. Since 1994 she has been teaching at the Zurich University of the Arts and since 2001 she has been an honorary professor at the Institute for Theater Education at the University of Osnabrück . From 1993 to 1995 she was artistic director of the Theatertreffen der Jugend in Berlin. In addition, she is regularly involved in the conception and organization of festivals and theater meetings. a. at the international directing seminar for children and youth theater, the search for traces - meeting of independent children and youth theater and gives workshops at home and abroad on the methodology of theater with children and the narrative methods of epic theater .
