After the end of the Second World War, a loose sports group was founded in 1945 under the name SG Grabow . In the 1946/47 season, SG Ludwigslust played for one season in the Mecklenburg-West regional league, which at that time was the top division in the Soviet occupation zone alongside other regional leagues . In 1949 the sports community was briefly transformed into the BSG district administration Ludwigslust and in 1950 again renamed to Einheit Ludwigslust . The city administration supported the company sports association as a sponsoring company , the BSG was run under the name Einheit like all teams of the central sports association .

After the dissolution of the federal states and the founding of the districts in the GDR, Einheit Ludwigslust played in the newly founded third-rate district league Schwerin in the 1952/53 season . In 1959, the unit before Vorwärts Schwerin won the Schwerin district championship and rose to the 2nd GDR league . The third highest division of the GDR turned out to be a number too big for Ludwigslust, with only nine season points, the BSG rose back to the district league area together with unit Teterow and progress Neustadt-Glewe .

In the period that followed, the Ludwigslust unit became an integral part of the district league. In 1968 the city administration got out as a sponsor, the team functioned from then on as TSG Ludwigslust . In 1979 TSG merged with local rival Post Ludwigslust to form TSG / Post Ludwigslust . In 1988/89 TSG was relegated to the district class area, and in 1990 the name was changed again to Post SV 50 and SSV Lindenstadt . In 2003 the SSV merged with Grabower FC to form SG Ludwigslust / Grabow .

Grabower FC was the successor club to BSG Empor Grabow , which also played in the newly founded Schwerin District League in 1952/53. A season later, the team was relegated and, apart from a brief interlude in the 1956 district league, mostly played in the fourth-rate district class. The later Bundesliga professionals Marco Küntzel and Bastian Reinhardt played for several years in the youth teams of Empor Grabow and Grabower FC.

The club's current league is the seventh-class state league Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania .
