II. GDR League 1959

The II. GDR League 1959 was the fifth season of the II. GDR League, founded in 1955 . It was the third highest division in the German Football Association of the GDR (DFV) after the GDR Oberliga and the first GDR League .

Game operation

The II. GDR League 1959 was carried out analogously to the four championships from 1955 to 1958 based on the Russian model, in which football matches were aligned with the calendar year. It was held in five seasons with a subsequent promotion round, from whose championships Dynamo Hohenschönhausen , Vorwärts Cottbus and Motor Karl-Marx-Stadt rose to the GDR league .

season 1

Season 1 (district Rostock, Schwerin, Neubrandenburg, Berlin) was played on 26 match days with a return game. Relay winner and promoted to the GDR league was Dynamo Hohenschönhausen . Unit Rostock , Empor Neustrelitz and Motor Stralsund were relegated to the district league area. In the following season, unit Ludwigslust , unit Teterow , civil engineering Berlin and forward Rostock moved into the 2nd GDR league.

Season 2 (Bez. Berlin, Potsdam, Frankfurt, Cottbus) was played on 26 match days with a return leg. The season winner and promoted to the GDR league was Vorwärts Cottbus . Motor Eberswalde , Turbine Finkenheerd and the Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe went down to the district league area. In the following season, activist Laubusch , activist Schwarze Pump , Empor Fürstenwalde and Lok Kirchmöser moved into the 2nd GDR League.

Season 3 (district Halle, Magdeburg, Leipzig) was played on 26 match days with a return leg. The season winner was Wissenschaft Halle . Motor Schkeuditz , Chemie Greppin and SG Zwenkau relegated to the district league area. In the following season, Chemie Schönebeck , Motor Aschersleben and Empor Wurzen from the GDR league moved up into the 2nd GDR league.

Season 4 (District Dresden, Leipzig, Karl-Marx-Stadt, Cottbus) was played on 26 match days with a return game. Motor Karl-Marx-Stadt became the relay winner and promoted to the GDR league . Bismut Rodewisch , activist Welzow and Chemie Riesa were relegated to the district league area. In the following season Motor Werdau , Unit Elsterberg , Stahl Gröditz , Vorwärts Leipzig and league relegated Chemie Glauchau moved into the 2nd GDR League.

In the following season Motor Neuhaus-Schierschnitz , Motor Rudisleben and league relegated Motor Steinach moved into the second GDR league.
