The SC 06 Oberlind is a sports club in the Oberlind district of the southern Thuringian town of Sonneberg .
Both in the past and in the present (as of 2018), the sports club has only attracted attention beyond the city limits through its football players. In this regard, one can look back on a long tradition. In the years 1926 to 1929 the Oberlinders were South Thuringian champions four times in a row. Later and until the 1940s, the SC 06 was represented in the second highest Thuringian soccer class. After the Second World War, the club, like all East German sports clubs, was banned on the initiative of the Soviet occupying power.
With the introduction of the company sports associations in East Germany, sport in Oberlind was able to regain orderly structures. The company sports association Stahl Oberlind was founded under the sponsorship of the VEB Thuringia machine factory, whose name was changed to BSG Motor Oberlind in 1952. Although the BSG offered several sports, it was only known nationwide through its soccer team. In 1952 this was one of the founding teams of the then third-class football district league Suhl . In the second district league season in 1953/54, the Oberlinders won the district championship title, which entitled them to promotion to the GDR league . Because of the reduction of the league from three to two seasons, an eleventh place in the end was not enough for relegation and Oberlind was incorporated into the newly created II. GDR league . There Motor Oberlind was able to place itself in the middle of its squadron for three years, but in 1959 it was only enough for last place, and the team was relegated to the district league, which was fourth class at the time. In 1963 Oberlind won first place in the East relay, but was defeated by Motor Breitungen in the final of the district championship . Motor Oberlind continued to be represented in the Suhl district league until 1976. The 1975/76 season ended with 14th and last place, and it was not until 1989 that the Oberlinder, now taking on as BSG Thuringia, again reached the district league. The last season of the district league Suhl before the restructuring of Thuringian football in 1990/91, the team finished 7th.
After the economic foundations for the company sports associations ceased to exist in 1990 due to the changed economic conditions as a result of the political change in 1989, the SC 06 was re-established in Oberlind. Again, the football teams were the mainstay of the club, but at a low level. The first men's team succeeded in advancing from the district class to the state class (6th league) in the 1990s, but from 2001 the team slipped to the Sonneberg district league (9th / 10th league), in which the team played until the 2014/15 season. In this season she made it to the district upper league South Thuringia (8th league), in which she is currently (as of the 2019/20 season).

The women's team of SC 06 Oberlind is currently the flagship of SC 06. For many years it was represented in the Thuringia regional class, the second highest Thuringian league. Throughout Germany, however, this league was to be arranged between the 4th and 7th division due to various structural changes in the course of time. Since the 2017/18 season, the women's team has been playing in the Thuringia Association, the first Thuringian and the fifth-highest division in Germany.
