The GDR district league Suhl was one of fifteen third-rate football district leagues in the field of the DFV in the Suhl district .
history
In 1952 the previous five states were dissolved through an administrative reform in the GDR , and 14 districts and East Berlin took their place . The DFV then dissolved the national soccer leagues and founded the 15 district leagues as the third division in the league system. The clubs from the soccer district league Suhl previously played predominantly in the regional soccer class Thuringia 1948-1952 .
The district league Suhl was played in a round-robin tournament. Ten to twelve teams played in the first four seasons, then with 14 teams for the district championship. After the introduction of the 2nd GDR League in 1955, the Suhl district league was only fourth class. From the 1960/61 season the district championship was held in two seasons of 14 teams each. With the dissolution of the 2nd GDR League in 1963, the district leagues were from then on again in third class. From 1966/67 the district league was held again in a group with 14 teams. The seasons 1980/81 to 1983/84 were again two-pronged with 14 teams each, where the season winners determined the district champion in two finals. From the 1984/85 season, the district league was continued on a single track with a number of 16 participating teams and ended with the 1990/91 season with ten teams.
After the reunification of Germany , the resolution of the DFV was resolved at an Extraordinary Association Day on November 20, 1990 in Leipzig. With the 1990/91 season, the Thuringian Football League was founded and the Suhl district league was in fourth class for one season and dissolved in 1991.
The record champions of the district league Suhl is the BSG Empor / Chemie Ilmenau which has won the district championship eight times.
