The Leipzig district soccer league was a performance level in the league system of German soccer . It was established in 1952 in the German Democratic Republic by the DFV and organized until 1990. After the reunification of Germany , it was continued by the LFV and, after its dissolution in 2010, was taken over by the SFV in a one-year transition period . In 2011 the district league was dissolved.
history
The Leipzig District League was set up in 1952 as the top division of the newly formed Leipzig District, analogous to the regional administrative reform in the GDR . In the league pyramid of the GDR it was first the third highest division after the Oberliga and GDR league . Because of the introduction of the 2nd GDR league in 1955, it was downgraded to the fourth class, only after the second division was abolished in 1963 to move up to the third grade again, in which she ranked until the end of the GDR in 1990.
After the reunification of Germany in 1990, the Leipzig District League remained operated by the Leipzig Football Association (LFV) , even if the administrative district itself was dissolved. However, it was lowered by two classes to the fifth performance level, with the newly formed Saxony League of the Saxon Football Association (SFV) as the next higher division. In 1994 and 2008, there were two further reductions by one level each, so that the district league was the seventh division in the German league system.
In 2010, as part of a structural reform of the SFV, the LFV was dissolved and the game operations of the district class were taken over directly by the Saxon state association. As part of a transition season, the district league was played for the last time in the 2010/11 season and then abolished. It was replaced by the newly created regional class north of the SFV.
