The GDR district league Berlin was one of the football district leagues in the field of the DFV .
In 1952, an administrative reform in the GDR abolished the previous states and replaced them with 15 districts (including East Berlin ). Accordingly, 15 district leagues were set up, which thus formed the new third division for many years. During the seasons 1957 (calendar year season) to 1967/68 the East Berlin League was called the City League. The next higher league was usually the GDR League , only between 1956 and 1962/63 there was the third division, the II. GDR League . Usually the East Berlin champion had to qualify for promotion via a promotion round, only when the 2nd GDR League from 1957 to 1962 and the GDR League from 1971 to 1984 consisted of five seasons, from which all district champions rose directly. After German reunification, the East Berlin District League was renamed the Berlin (East) regional league for the 1990/91 season. In a short interlude in 1991/92, the East Berlin champions played in the Northeast Football League , then the Association League Berlin was introduced for all of Berlin .
