history
BSG activist Espenhain
In its history, the club goes back to the company sports association (BSG) of the brown coal processing plant in Espenhain, which is eight kilometers from Kitzscher. The BSG was given the name "Aktivist Espenhain" in accordance with its sponsoring company from the mining and coal industries. Track and field athletes were among the most successful athletes of the early days. In 1949 the decathlete Rudi Etzold won the Saxon state championship. In 1951 and 1952 the javelin thrower Lieselotte Kühne was GDR youth champion. These successes prompted the lignite mine to build a new stadium, which was inaugurated on "Miner's Day" on July 1, 1956 with a large athletics festival. The GDR runner-up in 1968 in the 3000 m obstacle course Achim Weißenberger also had his first successes with the BSG activist.
The Espenhainer bowlers were also successful. Between 1957 and 1980, activist Espenhain and Herbert Uhlmann and the bowlers Herchert and Bräuer were East German champions. The women became East German team champions in 1971 and the men became East German runners-up in 1959. Herbert Uhlmann belonged to the GDR selection in 1955, which won the world championship title.
BSG soccer
The soccer section of the BSG activist started on a modest level. However, Horst Slaby grew up here , who later became a GDR master with chemistry in Leipzig . The club emerged from ZSG Energie Espenhain in 1951, and activist Magdeborn joined in 1955, which enabled activist Espenhain to take their place in the Leipzig district class, before advancing to the Leipzig district league, which was then fourth in 1958 . In 1961 the BSG activist Espenhain-Süd (until 1956 BSG activist Kitzscher) joined the BSG activist Espenhain. Initially mostly placed in midfield, the Espenhainers won the district championship in 1967, with which they qualified for the promotion round to the second-rate GDR league . There, however, the team only reached four draws and missed promotion with third place. Two years later, relegation from the district league had to be accepted, but in the 1973/74 season the BSG reported back to the district league with a strengthened team and, after a 3rd place in 1974, won the district championship again in 1975.
This time you were immediately qualified for the GDR league , the league had five seasons during this period, and activist was able to establish himself there and hold it for the 1980/81 season . Since the local Otto Heinig Stadium was not up to the demands of the GDR league, the home games were played in the youth stadium in Kitzscher , eight kilometers away , with a capacity of 8,000. During this time, the Espenhainers had several former Leipzig league players, such as the national player Hans-Jürgen Naumann (165 × for 1. FC Lok) as well as Fritz Less (40 × for chemistry) and Joachim Niklasch (30 × 1. FC Lok) in their Rows.
After the pillars of the team had ended their active career, activist had to relegate back to the district league as penultimate after the 1980/81 season. There the team reached places in the upper table area by the end of the GDR football operation. In the season you became champions and could participate in the promotion round to the league , where you failed, however. At the end of the 1988/89 season they took second place in the district league - the ASG Vorwärts Delitzsch had waived as champions - even took part in the promotion round again, but could not prevail again. Between 1976 and 1983 the BSG activist took part in the competitions for the GDR soccer cup seven times without any notable success . In the last FDGB-Pokal competition in 1990/91 you already took part as FSV Kitzscher. This time, too, they couldn't get past the first round, as they lost 0:11 at home to FC Wismut Aue .

Development since 1990
When the lignite mine was privatized in 1990, funding for the company sports community ceased to exist. Some members of the football section of the BSG, who had used the sports facilities in Kitzscher in the past few years, then founded the FSV Kitzscher. Although the club had qualified for the regional league, it took part in the Leipzig district league again for financial reasons. The team was initially looked after by Wolfgang Jaschob and later by André Schöner. When Lothar Harnisch took over the training at FSV in 1993, things went steadily upwards. The culmination of the successful time was the district cup victory in the 1996/1997 season. During the 1997/98 season, the main sponsor withdrew, and after a ninth place at the end of the season, the first men's team was withdrawn from play at the district level. Many players left the club in the direction of Geithain. In 2002/03 Lothar Harnisch took over the team again, which was now back in the Leipzig district class, from which it was relegated again in 2005. In 2006 they returned to the district class, which has been the eighth league in DFB operations since 2008. The current trainer is Frank Wimberger, with the former FSV player Thomas Reck at his side.
The women's team, founded in Steinbach in 1996 and moved to Kitzscher in 1998, competed in the women's district league for the first time in the 1998/99 season. In 2001 she was relegated and has since played in the district league.
