Joachim Niklasch (born January 12, 1953 ) is a former German soccer goalkeeper . In the 1970s and 1980s he played for 1. FC Lokomotive Leipzig and Halleschen FC Chemie in the GDR Oberliga , the top division in GDR football . Niklasch was a multiple GDR junior national player.
Athletic career
After Joachim Niklasch became GDR champion with the junior team of 1. FC Lokomotive Leipzig in 1971 , coach Horst Scherbaum used him as a substitute for regular goalkeeper Werner Friese in eight league games in the 1972/73 season . In addition, Niklasch played twelve games with the 2nd team in the second-rate GDR league . In spring 1972 he was appointed to the squad of the GDR youth national team, for which he initially completed two international matches. 1973/74 Niklasch only played in the second team, but then had his most successful league season in 1974/75 when he represented Friese in thirteen of 26 league games. It was followed by another season without league use, and since the 2nd team was relegated, Niklasch had to play in the third-class district league. In March 1976 he was used again in an international match of the youth national team. He played his last league game for 1. FC Lok on the second match day of the 1976/77 season. At the end of the season, Niklasch won the GDR championship in this league with the junior league team of 1. FC Lok.
After the winter break, Niklasch switched to league rivals Hallescher FC Chemie, where he represented the regular goalkeeper Helmut Brade in four league games. Since the HFC signed Ulrich Kühn, a new number one for the goal for the 1977/78 season , Niklasch only played in three league games until November. In November 1977 he was drafted into the National People's Army for twelve months of military service.
After the end of his army time, Niklasch joined the GDR league club BSG activist Espenhain in the 1978/79 season . There he was nominated as 2nd goalkeeper, but was not used. Only in the 1980/81 season he was reactivated and called up in 13 of the 22 GDR league games. After this season Espenhain rose from the district league. From 1982/83 Niklasch played for the newly promoted GDR league representative TSG Chemie Markkleeberg . There he finally managed to become a permanent goalkeeper. Until 1987 he was always in all the league games. After playing 23 league games in 1987/88, 1. FC Lokomotive Leipzig brought him back after 12 years at the beginning of April because a replacement was needed after the third goalkeeper Maik Kischko failed . However, he was only used once in the Oberliga on matchday 24 against BFC Dynamo , when he was replaced as goalkeeper for 1.75 m tall striker Dieter Kühn , so that the 1.80 m tall goalkeeper René Müller should help out. to score the winning goal. Lok Leipzig and BFC were tied on points before this match day, but the BFC had the better goal difference. If it had won, Lok would have overtaken the BFC and would have had a good chance of winning the first GDR championship. In the remaining slots, however, Lok could no longer score and was runner-up at the end of the season. Lok Leipzig also led Niklasch as the third goalkeeper for the 1988/89 season, but he was not used in the major league. Instead, he returned to TSG Markkleeberg, where he played 21 out of 34 point games in the GDR league. When TSG changed to 1. FC Markkleeberg due to German reunification in 1990, Niklasch was again part of the first team for the 1990/91 season, the second-rate NOFV for one year in the newly formed in the former GDR territory League. As a 37-year-old, he played eight point games. Then he said goodbye to higher-class football as a football goalkeeper. He later became a goalkeeper and assistant coach at the lower class SG Taucha 99 .
