Horst Scherbaum (born August 2, 1925 in Plauen , † April 21, 1996 in Leipzig ) was a soccer player and soccer coach in the GDR soccer game . Stations as a player

Horst Scherbaum played in his youth for SV Concordia Plauen until 1942 . After the Second World War he was active at SG Plauen-Süd. With her he became Vogtland district champion in 1947. As a player for BSG Chemie Leipzig, Scherbaum led the GDR national soccer team to their first international match on September 21, 1952, as captain and right wing runner. The GDR lost the game in Poland 3-0. Until 1958, Scherbaum always played a total of five international matches as a midfielder. In 1954 he was also used in two international matches for the B national team.

After relegation from the league, Scherbaum played with the ZSK Vorwärts, where he had since been appointed team captain, as a right runner all 26 point games in the second-rate GDR league and was thus decisively involved in the immediate resurgence. On July 3, 1954, he was with the forward team in the final of the GDR soccer cup , which the Berlin second division team surprisingly won 2-1 against the upper division Motor Zwickau. In the summer of 1955, Scherbaum ended his service in the barracked people's police and joined the upper division SC Rotation Leipzig , which was founded in 1954 .
