Ulrich Kühn (born September 4, 1951 ) was a football player in the GDR upper league . In the highest soccer league in the GDR he played for Wismut Gera and Halleschen FC Chemie .

Athletic career

Kühn was goalkeeper at TSG Apolda until 1972 , with whom he last played in the third-rate district league Erfurt . In 1972 the 1.90 m tall goalkeeper moved to FC Carl Zeiss Jena and was there until 1976 in the 2nd team that played in the second-rate GDR league . After the 2nd team was downgraded to the district league as a result of the introduction of the junior league, Kühn left Jena and joined the GDR league club Wismut Gera. There he was initially behind Peter Winklersecond goalkeeper and played eight point games in the GDR league in his first season in Gera. Wismut Gera finished the season as a climber in the league. In his first league season Kühn was from the 7th matchday in the goal of Gera and was used there regularly until the end of the season, so he came to 18 league games. Wismut Gera could only hold its own in the top division for one year.

After relegation, Kühn moved to the upper division Hallescher FC Chemie. Although only nominated as the second goalkeeper behind Frank Jaenecke , Kühn replaced his opponent on the 2nd match day of the 1978/79 season and became the regular goalkeeper for Halle with 20 league appearances. For the 1979/80 season Kühn was named number one in the HFC goal, but injured himself so badly on matchday 10 that he was no longer used for the rest of the season. It was only on the 12th match day of the 1980/81 season that Kühn returned to the goal of the league team and guarded it continuously until the last two game days. Kühn played his last league season in 1981/82. After the first four match days, he was replaced by Michael Walther , who was nine years his junior , and was only used in four other league games at intervals until the end of the season. In the summer of 1982 Kühn ended his career as a competitive athlete for health reasons.

Within five seasons he had been used in 69 league games, 51 of which were for Halleschen FC Chemie.
