Peter Winkler (born July 24, 1947 ) is a former German soccer goalkeeper. For the BSG Wismut Gera he played 1977/78 in the GDR Oberliga , the top division in GDR football .

Athletic career

Peter Winkler spent his junior years with the company sports association (BSG) Empor Jena from 1958 , for which he played in the district class until 1967. For the second half of the 1967/68 season, the trained precision mechanic was delegated to the football club of the Gera district , FC Carl Zeiss Jena , but had to guard the goal with the second team in the second-rate GDR league . He had to deal with the former Oberliga goalkeeper Hans-Ulrich Grapenthin , which he succeeded in 1968 with ten inserts in 15 point games and 1968/69 with 20 of 30 possible point game inserts. After Winkler had played the first seven GDR league games of the 1969/70 season, he was drafted into the National People's Army in November 1969 for 18-month military service.

After his discharge from the army, Winkler joined the GDR league club Wismut Gera, where he was used in eight league games in 1971/72. In the seasons 1972/73 and 1973/74 he was the undisputed goalkeeper with 21 appearances in 22 point games. For disciplinary reasons, he had to prove himself in the 1974/75 season at the third-rate district league promoted BSG Schott Jena . He then returned to Wismut Gera, where he played all 22 GDR league games in 1975/76. For the 1976/77 season he received competition from 25-year-old Ulrich Kühn , so he was only used in twelve point games. Wismut Gera ended the season with promotion to the GDR league. Winkler played the first six league games in 1977/78, but when Gera had already conceded 16 goals after a 6-0 defeat against BFC Dynamo , coach Gerhard Waidha's goalkeeper Winkler switched to Ulrich Kühn, and Winkler only came until the end of the season used in three other point games.

Wismut Gera only stayed in the top division for one season. The 31-year-old Winkler took this as an opportunity to end his career as a competitive athlete. After 121 GDR league games (37 for Jena, 84 for Gera) as well as nine league games for Wismut Gera, he let his career end with the district division structure Jena.
