Gerhard Waidhas (born January 13, 1942 ) is a former German soccer player. For BSG Chemie Leipzig and BSG Stahl Eisenhüttenstadt , he played in the GDR Oberliga , the top division in GDR football, in the 1960s .

Athletic career

After Gerhard Waidhas became champion of the Leipzig district league with the company sports association (BSG) Motor Altenburg in 1965 , he moved to the upper division BSG Chemie Leipzig at the beginning of the 1965/66 season. When the regular center forward Bernd Rohr was canceled after the 4th matchday, coach Alfred Kunze gave the 23-year-old Waidhas a chance on the 5th and 6th matchday. A month later, Waidhas was called up for an 18-month military service in the National People's Army , so it remained with these two league missions.

During his time in the army, Waidhas was able to continue playing football in the second-rate GDR league with the Army Sports Association (ASG) Vorwärts Leipzig . In the second half of the 1965/66 season he played eight point games and scored a goal. In 1966/67 he developed into a regular player in the forward team, because he was used 27 times in the 30 GDR league games played and scored five goals. After his discharge from the military, Waidhas returned to Chemie Leipzig and played 19 games in the league (1 goal) in the 1967/68 season. Apart from a ten-week injury break between the 9th and 15th matchday, Waidhas was regularly called up and played in various positions in attack.

Despite this positive season, Waidhas left Chemie Leipzig in the summer of 1968 and joined the GDR league club BSG Wismut Gera . Gera was relegated from the league in 1967 and had missed the intended promotion in 1968. With several new players, a new attempt at promotion should be made in 1968/69. Waidhas found his way around Gera immediately, played all 30 point games and scored three goals. The BSG Wismut missed the rise again.

Instead, the BSG Stahl Eisenhüttenstadt rose to the league and brought Gerhard Waidhas into their team for the 1969/70 season, along with other experienced players. It was not up to him that the Eisenhüttenstadt team failed to stay up because he was able to play 20 of the 26 point games and with his five goals became the top scorer of the BSG Stahl. Shortly after the start of the 1970/71 season, Stahl Eisenhüttenstadt was demoted to the district league because of manipulated player changes. Several players, including Gerhard Waidhas, were banned for the entire season. Eisenhüttenstadt, however, achieved immediate promotion to the GDR league, and Waidhas remained a safe regular player until 1974. In the 1971/72 to 1973/74 he completed 52 of the 66 GDR league games played and remained a successful striker with his four goals each. At the age of 32, he went into his last GDR league season in 1974/75, in which he played six point games and scored another goal. In the summer he ended his competitive sports career.

Waidhas returned to Gera, where he coached the league promoted BSG Wismut for a season in the 1977/78 season. After the Geraer had to get down again, Mathias Heymann was replaced.
