Dietrich Wilhelm Heinrich Busch (born March 16, 1788 in Marburg , † March 15, 1858 in Berlin ) was a German surgeon and obstetrician .

Live and act

Dietrich Wilhelm Heinrich Busch was born into a family of doctors in Marburg. His grandfather Johann Jakob Busch and his father Johann David Busch were professors at the University of Marburg . Dietrich Wilhelm Busch studied from 1804 at Marburg University also medicine . In 1808 he received his doctorate there from his father . Between 1806 and 1814 he worked several times as a surgeon in hospitals. In 1814 Busch was appointed general staff doctor of the Hessian Army Corps and extraordinary professor of surgery, and in 1817 he was appointed full professor at the University of Marburg. After the end of the Napoleonic Wars he devoted himself more and more to obstetrics, so that in 1820 he was appointed professor of obstetrics. In this capacity he was also director of the obstetric clinic. In 1827 he was vice rector of the university.

After the death of Adam Elias von Siebold (1775-1828), Dietrich Wilhelm Busch was appointed as his successor in 1829 at the Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Berlin . Franz Naegele (1778-1851) from Heidelberg had previously rejected the offer. Busch's students in Berlin included Carl Siegmund Franz Credé , Karl von Hecker and Bernhard Sigmund Schultze . He was dean five times and rector of Berlin University from 1835 to 1836 and 1849 to 1850 . Under Busch's directorate, the maternity clinic moved from Oranienburger Strasse to Dorotheenstrasse. He headed the obstetrics clinic until his death shortly before the age of 70. Eduard Arnold Martin (1809–1875) from Jena was appointed as his successor .

The surgeon Karl David Wilhelm Busch was the son of Dietrich Wilhelm Heinrich Busch.

Freemasonry

In 1812 Busch was accepted into the Marburg Freemason Lodge Marc Aurel zum Flammenden Stern , in which his father was also a member; at times he acted as their chair master . He later joined the Zum Pilgrim Lodge in Berlin. From 1834 he was state grandmaster of the great state box of the Freemasons of Germany for 15 years .
