Karl von Hecker

Karl Hecker , from 1872 Ritter von Hecker , (born May 8, 1827 in Berlin , † December 14, 1882 in Munich ) was a German gynecologist and obstetrician .

Live and act

Karl von Hecker was born in Berlin as the only son of the medical historian Justus Hecker . He studied medicine at the universities of Berlin , Heidelberg , Paris and Vienna . In 1848 he was in Berlin with the dissertation "De Chlorosi" doctorate . In 1851, Hecker began working as an assistant at Dietrich Wilhelm Heinrich Busch's obstetric clinic at the Charité . Here he completed his habilitation in 1853 with the text "De retroversione uteri gravidi" . After Karl Christoph Hueter's death , von Hecker was appointed as his successor and full professor for obstetrics at the University of Marburg in 1858. Just one year later, he followed a call as a gynecologist at the University of Munich . Here he was also appointed director of the municipal building institution and the district midwifery school. From 1874 to 1875 he was rector of the university. In 1877, together with Carl Siegmund Franz Credé and Alfred Hegar , he drew up a statute for the establishment of an independent gynecological specialist society, which, however, only became the German Society for Gynecology in 1885, three years after his death . Karl von Hecker died of a stroke in 1882 at the age of 54 .

He was married to a daughter of the lawyer Johann Caspar Bluntschli and had two daughters and two sons.
