Hans Ludwig (doctor)

Hans Ludwig (born October 17, 1929 in Warnsdorf , Czechoslovakia ) is a German gynecologist and obstetrician .

Life

Hans Ludwig received his training in Düsseldorf , Marburg , Tübingen , Basel and Munich . After dissertation and habilitation , he was appointed professor for gynecology and obstetrics at the University of Duisburg-Essen in 1972 , where he worked until 1982. He then moved to the University of Basel in the same position . Ludwig worked here until his retirement in 1990 as director of the university women's clinic and from 1989 to 1995 dean of studies .

Ludwig's scientific interest was in blood coagulation , shock events in obstetrics, contraception, human reproduction and the electron microscopic morphology of the female genital tract. Since 1996 he has devoted himself to the history of gynecology and obstetrics.

From 1986 to 1988 Hans Ludwig was President of the German Society for Gynecology and Obstetrics and organized its congress in Munich in 1988.

Ludwig has been a member of the editorial board of the Archives of Gynecology and Obstetrics magazine since 1980 , as coordinating editor from 1997 to 2010, and since then as editor emeritus. From 1988 to 1991 he was President of the European Association of Gynecology and Obstetrics and from 1979 to 1994 a member of the Executive Board of the Fédération Internationale de Gynécologie et d'Obstétrique (FIGO). In 1985 he was Secretary General of the FIGO World Congress in Berlin . Hans Ludwig has been a Fellow of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists ad eundem (FRCOG) and Fellow of the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (hon.) (FACOG) since 1987 . In 2000 he was made an honorary member of the Česká gynekologická a porodnická společnost (Czech Society for Gynecology and Obstetrics of the Czech Society for Medicine Purkinyě ). Honorary membership of the German Society for Gynecology and Obstetrics was awarded to him in 2012.
