Lutwin Beck
Lutwin Beck (born January 13, 1927 in Saarbrücken ) is a German gynecologist and obstetrician .
Life
Born in Saarland in 1927 , Lutwin Beck was hired as an air force helper at the end of the Second World War . After the end of the war , he studied medicine at the Sorbonne in Paris and the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main . In 1952, after defending his dissertation, the muscles of the renal pelvis and the upper part of the ureter in dogs, cats, pigs and humans , Beck became a Dr. med. PhD . He then completed training in anesthesiology in Syracuse (New York) . After his return, he took a position at the Wuppertal State Women's Clinic under Karl Julius Anselmino (1900–1978). Lutwin Beck later moved to the University Women's Clinic in Mainz under the direction of Volker Friedberg . In 1967 he completed his habilitation at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz with the thesis Morphology and Function of the Muscles of the Female Urethra . At the same time he became a senior physician and made a name for himself with the development of urodynamic measurement systems. Beck received a call to the C4 professorship at the Düsseldorf University Women's Clinic from Mainz . He took over the office of clinic director in August 1971. He headed the clinic until his retirement in 1993. Hans Georg Bender was appointed his successor .
Lutwin Beck was twice chairman of the Lower Rhine-Westphalian Society for Gynecology and Obstetrics , from 1984 to 1986 President of the German Society for Gynecology (DGGG) and organized its congress in 1986 in Düsseldorf . Both societies later made him an honorary member . For many years Beck was a representative of the DGGG on the FIGO board and chairman of the Cancer Society NRW (formerly GBK) and was appointed honorary chairman.
He is a representative for medical questions in the Görres Society , member of the board of trustees of the Hufeland Foundation and co-editor of the Bioethical Lexicon . From 1983 to 2009 he was also co-editor of the journal Der Gynäkologe . For many years, Lutwin Beck was also the medical chairman of the expert committee for medical malpractice at the North Rhine Medical Association .
Lutwin Beck is married to his fellow student Margret Beck, whom he met while studying in Frankfurt. The couple have four children, a daughter and three sons.
