Hans Georg Bender

Hans Georg Bender (born March 31, 1943 in Wuppertal ) is a German gynecologist and obstetrician .

Live and act

Hans Georg Bender studied medicine at the universities of Freiburg , Munich and Münster from 1962 to 1968 . With the state examination in 1968 he also received his doctorate in Münster . He then worked as a research assistant at the University Women's Clinic in Düsseldorf from 1969 to 1977, where he completed his training as a specialist in gynecology and obstetrics. In 1978 he received his habilitation there , appointed senior physician and private lecturer . From 1978 to 1979, Bender completed a scientific education at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York , at the Mayo Clinic Rochester , at the Massachusetts General Hospital Boston and at the University of California, San Diego . He then worked again as a senior physician at the University Women's Clinic in Düsseldorf, where he was appointed C3 professor in 1982 . In 1989, Bender was appointed to succeed Heinrich Schmidt-Matthiesen as a C4 professor at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main and was appointed head of the department for gynecological oncology . He worked here until 1993. In 1993, Hans Georg Bender was reappointed to Düsseldorf as C4 professor, successor to Lutwin Beck and director of the University Women's Clinic . He headed the clinic until his retirement in 2008.

Hans Georg Bender played a key role in shaping the clinical and scientific development of gynecological oncology in Germany. Further clinical and scientific focal points were operative gynecology, obstetrics and perinatology , and gynecological infectious diseases .

From 2000 to 2002 he was President of the German Society for Gynecology and Obstetrics and from 1999 to 2009 Chairman of the Cancer Society of North Rhine-Westphalia. Since 2001, Hans Georg Bender has been a member of the German Academy of Natural Scientists Leopoldina (subsection gynecology).

Hans Georg Bender was the editor of several parts of the multi-volume “Clinic for Gynecology and Obstetrics” and has been co-editor of the magazine Der Gynäkologe since 1989 .
