Live and act

Karl Julius Anselmino was born as the son of the pharmacist Julius Anselmino. The elementary school he attended in his birthplace, then the grammar school in Siegburg , where he one in June 1918 Notabitur took off. He was then called up for military service at the end of the First World War .

In the autumn of 1918 Anselmino was able to start studying medicine. He studied at the universities in Cologne , Munich and Bonn . At the age of 24, Anselmino was approved and obtained his doctorate in Bonn in October 1924 . There he also completed his first time as a medical intern at the Medical and Surgical University Clinics. He then worked at the Pathological-Anatomical Institute in Cologne until 1926 , at the Hygienic-Bacteriological Institute in Bonn and until 1928 at the Physiological Institute in Kiel . In July 1928 Anselmino switched to the gynecological clinic of the Medical Academy in Düsseldorf , where he completed his habilitation .

In 1932 Karl Julius Anselmino went to the United States for a year , where he worked at the Rockefeller Institute in New York and at the University of California in San Francisco . After his return he worked as a senior physician again for two years at the gynecological clinic of the Medical Academy in Düsseldorf . Here, however, he was fired on May 14, 1935 for "political unreliability". He was described as a “friend of the Jews” and allegedly had “relations with the Communist Party”. He then worked for a short time at the Charité Women's Clinic in Berlin . In September 1936 he moved to Wuppertal , where he was entrusted with the management of the Provincial Midwifery School and Rheinische Landesfrauenklinik Elberfeld. He took over the clinic as the successor to Eduard Martin , who retired at the age of 57 after conflicts with those in power

Anselmino headed the clinic, which today belongs to the St. Antonius and St. Josef Clinic Association , as chief physician until 1965 and managed it successfully in the 1930s. Extensive structural and medical extensions and renovations were carried out under Anselmino. He improved the education of the students through modern teaching materials and methods and thus gave the clinic a reputation among the population and increasing numbers in the areas of gynecological and obstetric care. Between 1934 and 1943, " 122 patients were forcibly sterilized , although an increase in numbers was initially observed after the new director of the institution, Anselmino, ". Within four years, the number of births had more than doubled in 1940, and the number of gynecological admissions even quadrupled.

Scientifically, Karl Julius Anselmino dealt with many topics of female endocrinology, surgical gynecology and obstetrics. In 1938 Anselmino was awarded the title of "extraordinary professor" by the University of Cologne . Among his students were Hans Frangenheim , Lutwin Beck and Hans Stockhausen . In 1944 Anselmino propagated obstetric epidural anesthesia in Germany. In 1947 he supported the development of the first German tampon .

Karl Julius Anselmino was also active as an art collector, especially of the works of Paul Klee . His collection also included works by Pablo Picasso , Wassily Kandinsky , Lyonel Feininger , Ernst Ludwig Kirchner , Max Beckmann and Piet Mondrian .

Anselmino retired in 1965 after managing the Wuppertal Clinic for 30 years. He died on January 5th, 1978 at the age of 78 and was buried in his native Hennef an der Sieg .

Karl Julius Anselmino had been married to Ingeborg Lammers since 1937 and had four children.
