Franz Wilhelm Carl Ludwig Winckel , from 1891 Ritter von Winckel (born June 5, 1837 in Berleburg , † December 31, 1911 in Munich ; born Franz Wilhelm Carl Ludwig Winckel ) was a German gynecologist and obstetrician .

life and work

Winckel was a son of Gummersbacher and later Mülheimer Kreisphysikus, medical adviser Ludwig Winckel. From 1856 he studied medicine at the University of Berlin and from 1860 worked as an assistant doctor at the university women's clinic there. In 1864 he moved to Rostock as professor of gynecology . In 1872 Winckel became director of the Royal State Maternity School in Dresden and tried to convert it into a modern gynecological clinic. In Dresden v. Winckel et al. a. Teacher of Maximilian Nitze and Felix Martin Oberländer . He was elected to the Leopoldina in 1879. In 1883 Winckel became director of the University Women's Clinic in Munich . He retired in 1907 .

Franz von Winckel was the first president of the German Society for Gynecology and Obstetrics . In 1905 he was chairman of the Society of German Natural Scientists and Doctors .

The Wigand-Martin-Winckel handle bears the doctor's name. He also received the Knight's Cross of the Order of Merit of the Bavarian Crown in 1891 . This was connected with the elevation to the personal nobility.
