Horst Slaby

Horst Slaby (born February 12, 1941 in Dreimühlen , East Prussia ) is a former German football player who mainly played in the left midfield or in defense .

Player career

When Slaby began his active career at the age of twelve, he initially played in the position of a forward . At 17 he joined the BSG activist Espenhain . At a game of this team in the Leipzig district league , the coach Alfred Kunze was present to observe a player who had attracted attention but was injured in this game. Thanks to fate, Slaby was in great shape that day and scored all six goals for his team's 6-3 victory. Soon after, Kunze brought the talented Slaby to SC Lokomotive in Leipzig in the winter of 1959/60 and converted him to a midfielder. There he came to 16 appearances in the league.

When players were assigned to one of the two Leipzig clubs in 1963 , Slaby was delegated to the BSG Chemie Leipzig . The so-called "Rest of Leipzig" surprisingly won the championship in the 1963/64 season , with Slaby being used in 23 of the 26 point games. Two years later he also won the FDGB Cup with the chemists . Slaby played 55 league games for BSG Chemie.

During his military service in the National People's Army , he played for the ASG Vorwärts Leipzig from 1967 to 1969 and then returned to the BSG Chemie, in whose ranks he ended his active career in the 1971/72 season. There he came to another 43 missions in the GDR league.

Further career

Horst Slaby studied medicine and later earned his physical education teacher diploma. He did his doctorate in the field of education . For 17 years he was a research assistant at the DHfK in Leipzig.

From 1987 to 1989 he trained the first team at BSG Chemie Leipzig. From July 1, 1989 he started as an association trainer at DFV and took over the U-16 team of the GDR , with which he competed in the 1990 European Championship .

Trivia

His daughter Grit was a participant for the GDR in the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow , where she took fourth place in the 400 meter medley .
