Grit Slaby (born May 18, 1965 in Borna , GDR ) is a former German swimmer who competed for the GDR .

GDR championships

Slaby took part for the SC DHfK Leipzig several times in the GDR swimming championships, where she took third place in 1980 over 200 meters chest and 200 meters medley .

In 1981 she took second place in the 200-meter chest and a third place in the 200 and 400-meter medley.

In 1982 she reached a third place in the 100 and 200 meters chest and 400 meters medley.

While she was able to improve her times in 1981 compared to the previous year (with a 200 meter chest she was four and a half seconds faster and with a 200 meter medley about three), she was slower again in 1982 (with a 200 meter chest three seconds slower than 1981 and with a 400 meter medley two and a half seconds Seconds).

Olympia

The highlight of her athletic career was her participation for the GDR in the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow . Over 400 meter individual medley she reached the thankless fourth place with a gap of 0.37 seconds on the Pole Agnieszka Czopek , whereby she missed the bronze medal.

Her time was 4: 48.54 minutes, which she undercut at the GDR championships of 1981 by almost a second (4: 47.62), which would have been enough for bronze.

Trivia

Her father Horst Slaby was a football player who surprisingly won the GDR football championship with the so-called " Rest of Leipzig " in the 1963/64 season .
