Tiburzio Spannocchi

Tiburzio Spannocchi (* 1543 in Siena , † 1606 in Madrid ) was an Italian architect and engineer who was particularly active in the field of military engineering. Together with Filippo Terzi , he was mainly active in the area of ​​the Iberian Peninsula.

Life

Spannocchi came from a noble banking family. In 1577 he went to Sicily with Marcantonio Colonna , who had been appointed Viceroy of Sicily, where he worked on the mapping of the fortresses and in 1578 published the work Descripciòn de las marinas de todo el Reino de Sicilia. In 1580 King Philip II of Spain appointed him to his court. In Spain he first worked on the fortress of Fuenterrabia and then on the fortifications of Cadiz , Gibraltar , A Coruña , Saragossa , Jaca and Seville . He later created a plan for the city of Donostia-San Sebastián . He died in Madrid in 1606.
