The most successful section of the Rostock were the handball players . Until she was incorporated into SC Empor Rostock , she dominated men's handball first in the state of Mecklenburg , later in the GDR district of Rostock . After the runner-up in field handball in the eastern zone in 1948, the Rostockers played in this sport continuously until 1955 for the eastern zone and GDR championship. In their last field season, BSG Motor became East German champions after an 18:12 win in the final over SG Dynamo Halle . The handball players were even more successful in indoor handball . There, too, they played from 1950 to 1956 as Mecklenburg regional champions or as district champions, always for the championship, which they won four times in a row from 1953.

As early as 1946/47, SG Rostock West took part in the soccer championship in Mecklenburg. The Rostockers were represented in the Mecklenburg state class until they were relegated in 1949, after which they played in the fourth class district class until 1952. When the states were abolished in favor of the GDR districts for the 1952/53 season, BSG Motor was incorporated into the third-class Rostock district league . After the planned promotion to the second GDR league at Vorwärts Rostock had failed, the Werft-BSG succeeded in 1958. Motor belonged to the third highest East German league until 1962 for a total of three seasons. The direct resurgence failed because of Motor Wolgast , with the league reform Motor Rostock was already passed into the district class in 1964. In the period that followed, Motor Rostock shuttled between third and fourth class without exception, although the promotion to the GDR league was only just missed in the 1979/80 season . In 1988 Motor withdrew from the game for a short time, but returned that same year as BSG Motor Neptunwerft Rostock . SG Motor Neptun , which was renamed in 1990, belonged to the district league until it was dissolved, but could not qualify for the newly created Association League Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . The sports community was no longer able to return to the higher divisions.
