Paul-Friedrich "Fiete" Reder (born November 9, 1922 in Rostock ; † January 29, 2004 ) was a German handball player and handball trainer. For the GDR he completed an international match.

Athletic and professional career

Paul-Friedrich Reder is considered a pioneer of post-war handball in Rostock. Before the Second World War he had worked as an aircraft manufacturer for the Heinkel works in Rostock and was already playing handball at that time. Since he could no longer practice his profession after the war, he became a sports teacher at several Rostock schools. Together with some former teammates, he established a handball department at the Rostock-West sports community to revive handball in the Baltic Sea city. With SG West and their successors, he became national champion in Mecklenburg several times from 1948 and won his first of six GDR championships with BSG Motor Rostock in 1953 . His further successes include being appointed to the GDR national team , for which he played an international match. In 1956 he was taken over by the SC Empor Rostock with the handball section of BSG Motor . There he worked after the end of his playing career as a handball coach for men and in the youth sector. With both the men and the youth teams, he was GDR champion. He also took over the office of the Rostock City Gymnastics Council in 1959 and introduced regular swimming lessons in schools. Later became a district gymnastics councilor and taught as a senior teacher at a Rostock high school . At SC Empor Rostock he was appointed honorary member in 1956 and honorary captain of the successor club HC Empor Rostock in 1993.

Others

He died of heart failure on January 29, 2004. Thereafter, the Rostock sports hall Marienehe was renamed Fiete-Reder-Halle in his honor .
