The SV Rot-Weiß Werdau is a German multi-discipline club from Werdau in the district of Zwickau , which offers athletics, skiing and bowling. The former football department played 13 years in the GDR league and took part in the FDGB Cup 14 times.

Foundation of the company sports community
When in 1946 all civil associations had to be dissolved on the orders of the occupying powers, the "Sportgemeinschaft (SG) Reichsbahn" was founded in Werdau. It was renamed “SG Ernst Grube ” and “Lowa Werdau” until 1950 . In the course of 1950 GDR football was placed on a new economic basis through the establishment of company sports associations (BSG), and so from 1951 the West Saxons played as "BSG Motor Werdau". The VEB motor vehicle factory "Ernst Grube" Werdau acted as the sponsoring company of the company sports association .
Between the district league and the GDR league
Sporting successes began in 1957 with promotion to the Karl-Marx-Stadt district league . After the runner-up in the first year, Werdau made it to the second GDR league in 1959 before BSG Motor Zschopau . Motor Werdau played in what was then the third-highest division of the GDR football association until it was dissolved in 1963. The team then had to compete in the now third-tier district league until it was promoted to the GDR League in 1971 . In the very first season of the second-highest division, BSG Motor Werdau achieved a season victory that was not considered possible in their league season. In the following round of promotion to the GDR Oberliga , it was only enough for last place. Against the later promoted Rot-Weiß Erfurt Werdau lost chances with 1:11, which clearly showed the level difference between clubs and company sports communities. In 1976 Werdau was once again able to win the relay in the GDR league. Also in their second attempt in the league promotion round, the Werzeit only reached third place behind the later promoted 1. FC Union Berlin and Hansa Rostock .

Also in 1979 Motor Werdau failed just behind Energie Cottbus as runner-up on a third round of promotion. With the league reform in 1984, in which the division was reduced from five to two seasons, there was renewed relegation to the district league.
FDGB Cup
In the GDR Cup competition ( FDGB Cup ), the BSG was able to cause some surprises, especially in the 1970s. In the 1976/77 season, after a 3-1 win over the upper division Wismut Aue, the Werzeit reached the round of 16 (3-5, 3: 3 against Halleschen FC Chemie ). A year later, after victories against 1. FC Union Berlin (3: 1) and FC Karl-Marx-Stadt (1: 0, 3: 2), West Saxony was able to advance to the quarter-finals. There Motor Werdau lost 1: 5 and 0: 3 against Dynamo Dresden . Also in 1986, Motor Werdau met Dynamo again in the cup as a third-class district division team, but this time lost clearly 0:10 in the first round.

Foundation of the SV Rot-Weiß
When clubs could be founded again after the fall of the Wall, members of the previous BSG called the "Rot-Weiß Werdau Sports Club" into being. The first soccer team was classified in the Landesliga Sachsen . After relegation to the regional league in 1994, she quickly disappeared into oblivion. After relegated from the district league (2000), the club was passed through to the district class. After promotion in 2007, Rot-Weiß Werdau played in the Zwickau district league. In the meantime, Rot-Weiß Werdau has withdrawn from gaming. The football department was dissolved in 2009.
