The Eisenhüttenstädter FC Stahl was a football club from Eisenhüttenstadt in Brandenburg , which was dissolved on July 1, 2016 and merged into the new FC Eisenhüttenstadt.

historical development

BSG Stahl Fürstenberg

When in 1952 the newly founded district league Frankfurt / O. started playing as the 3rd league in GDR football, the twelve teams involved also included the Stahl company sports club from the small town of Fürstenberg in eastern Brandenburg . The BSG was founded on November 27, 1950 after the Second World War as a result of the dissolution of all associations that existed before the war. The sponsoring company was the former Rheinmetall plant ; the soccer players formed the most successful section of the BSG.

In May 1950, the III. Party congress of the SED , state party of the GDR, to build an ironworks combine with an adjoining residential area near Fürstenberg. The Eisenhüttenkombinat Ost started operations in 1951, and in 1953 the residential town was given the status of an independent urban district and the name Stalinstadt . On March 8, 1953, the ironworks combine took over the sponsorship of BSG Stahl Fürstenberg, which from then on bore the name Stahl Stalinstadt. After the city was renamed Eisenhüttenstadt as part of the de-Stalinization on November 13, 1961, the BSG Stahl also adopted this name. Even under the sponsorship of the Ironworks Combine, the soccer section remained the most successful part of the BSG.

Eisenhüttenstädter FC Stahl

After the economic and social changes as a result of the political change in 1989 and German reunification, the system of company sports associations could no longer be maintained, and civil associations according to German law took their place. The members of the soccer section of BSG Stahl Eisenhüttenstadt founded the registered association Eisenhüttenstädter Fußball-Club Stahl on May 19, 1990 . On June 29, 2016, the members decided to dissolve the association. (Continuation of game operations at FC Eisenhüttenstadt)

FC Eisenhüttenstadt

In the summer of 2015, EFC Stahl, the football section of SG Aufbau Eisenhüttenstadt, 1. FC Fürstenberg and the Eisenhüttenstadt youth development association initiated the merger into a large club. On June 1, 2015, FC Eisenhüttenstadt was founded, which the four above-mentioned clubs joined on July 1, 2016.

Stadion

The EFC has the Waldstraße sports complex (formerly the Hüttenwerker stadium) in the north-western part of Schönfließ . The sports facility was built for the Schönfließ sports community in 1928. The Fürstenberg steelworks expanded the facility into a stadium in 1950, which was expanded to accommodate 10,000 spectators in 1969 on the occasion of BSG Stahl's league rise. The stadium currently has four grass pitches and one hard court. There are 2,600 seats and 250 grandstand seats (as of 2007).

Development of the sport of football

1952 to 1991: Stahl Stalinstadt / Eisenhüttenstadt

In its second district league season, BSG Stahl was district champion in 1954 and thus qualified for the second-rate GDR league . Since the GDR league was reduced from three seasons to one season from 1956, the 9th place achieved in the 1954/55 season was not sufficient for relegation, so that the team in 1956 after switching over to the calendar year in the newly established II . DDR League had to compete. Thanks to their goal scorers Georg Eiermann and Hary Nosal, who each scored 50% of the steel goals with twelve hits, BSG Stahl took first place in the North Season and rose again to the first GDR league. This time it was enough for two seasons, after an 8th place in 1957, rank 13 after the 1958 season meant relegated to the 2nd GDR league. In 1959, the team had a hard time getting 8th place there, but in 1960 the steelworkers fought for a place in the first GDR league after winning a relay and a successful promotion round. Under the new name of Eisenhüttenstadt, the soccer players proved more quality in the following years and improved from year to year.

At the end of the 1968/69 league season, BSG Stahl Eisenhüttenstadt was in first place in the Northern League season and had thus qualified for the GDR Oberliga . With the financial support of the powerful sponsoring company, the team was able to be increased in terms of personnel, so that the two former GDR selection coaches Manfred Fuchs and Hans Studener had the following squad available for the 1969/70 season:

  • Goal: Holger Keipke (19 years), Walter Reschke (27)
  • Defense: Heinz Basan (25), Matthias Jahn (21), Horst Kittel (27), Peter Krzikalla (28), Lothar Reidock (28)
  • Midfield: Klaus Schendzielorz (28), Hans-Joachim Steinfurth (30), Franz Strahl (25)
  • Attack: Egon David (30), Klaus Grebasch (22), Karl-Heinz Pauser (20), Lothar Wagner (28), Gerhard Weidhas (27), Armin Wiegel (26), Benno Woit (29)

Ultimately, however, it was not enough to meet the requirements of the league. With only five wins from 26 games and a goal difference of 21:36, Stahl Eisenhüttenstadt finished the season as bottom of the table and relegated.

The 1970 scandal
On August 23, 1970, BSG Stahl tackled the re-promotion project, but had unexpected difficulties with the 2-1 defeat at Post Neubrandenburg, but was able to rehabilitate itself a week later with a clear 3-0 over TSG Wismar. In the meantime, however, the legal commission of the GDR football association DFV had initiated proceedings due to excessive payments to players and coaches. The BSG Stahl was considered a repeat offender, because already in the 1966/67 season they had been sentenced to a 4-point deduction for illegal play education (GDR language regulation for solicitation). On September 4, 1970, draconian sanctions were imposed. The BSG was retroactively downgraded to the district league, the section secretary Siegfried Nowka, as well as the trainers Manfred Fuchs and Hans Studener were banned for two years. The players Matthias Jahn, Hartwig Köpcke, Peter Pauser and Gerhard Weidhas, all of whom were brought to Eisenhüttenstadt in 1969, were suspended until the end of the season. The reasoning for the judgment reads as follows:

“For local, egoistic reasons in Eisenhüttenstadt, in gross violation of the principles of our socialist society and our socialist sports organization, the players of the first league team, the coaches and officials were given unjustified material advantages over the other football sections. ... Financial resources from various company funds were unjustifiably spent for non-sporting purposes. Unjustified donations were made and thus the financial resources of the working people were grossly and negligently misused for personal purposes. "(Baingo / Weise, Die Geschichte der DDR-Oberliga )

With the exception of the suspended players, the steel team completed the 1970/71 season in the Frankfurt / O district league, became district champions and rose again to the GDR league. There she spent the next 18 years before she again made promotion to the GDR league in 1989. At the beginning of the league season 1989/90, the 43-year-old coach Günther Reinke had the following 22-man squad available:

Eight players already had experience in the league, including Lahn (55 times for Union Berlin), Lindemann (45 times for Vorwärts Frankfurt and Energie Cottbus), Schulz (43 times for Vorwärts Frankfurt), Bitzka (39 times for Vorwärts Frankfurt) and Hawa (34 × for Union Berlin). With this good mix, Eisenhüttenstadt succeeded in asserting itself in the major league, in contrast to 1970. This, however, only thanks to the better goal difference compared to old master Wismut Aue and with the season record of 14 draws (with only two wins!). In the 1990/91 season, which was already under the affiliation of the DFV to the German Football Association DFB , the aim was to qualify for the 1st or 2nd Bundesliga. Reinforced by the GDR national goalkeeper Bodo Rudwaleit and the 163-time league player Axel Wittke, the Eisenhüttenstadt team took up the race for professional football. In the end, however, it was enough with 9th place for the club, which has now been converted to Eisenhüttenstädter FC Stahl, only for the then third-class Oberliga Nordost. In addition, the people of Eisenhüttenstadt were able to achieve a partial success. In the last competition for the GDR soccer cup , Eisenhüttenstadt reached the final after five wins, but lost to Hansa Rostock 0-1 there. Since the Rostock champions had become, Stahl had qualified for the European Cup Winners' Cup (see section "In the DFB game operations").
