Athletic career

Soccer player in the GDR

Fröhling began his football career with the company sports community (BSG) Lokomotive in Bützow, Mecklenburg. In 1979 he was delegated to 1. FC Magdeburg and became a pupil at the children's and youth sports school in Magdeburg . When the GDR football association revived the junior league for the 1983/84 season, Fröhling was a defender in the junior squad of 1. FC Magdeburg. From 1985 he played for the second team of the FCM in the third-class district league Magdeburg and completed his apprenticeship as a system fitter. At the beginning of the 1987/88 season, he moved to the second-rate GDR league team BSG Motor Schönebeck at the age of almost 21 . The 1.83 m tall defender was immediately a regular player and was only absent from two matches in the 34 game days of the season. In 1988/89 he made 23 league appearances, in both seasons he was without a goal. In July 1989 Fröhling moved to the league promoted BSG Stahl Eisenhüttenstadt . There he played eight league games in midfield and defense by November 1989. His escape to the West was planned for November 10, 1989.

Soccer player in Hamburg

After the unexpected opening of the GDR border, Fröhling traveled legally to Hamburg on November 11, 1989 , where he joined the Bundesliga club Hamburger SV after a trial training session at Hannover 96 , among other things . There he was mainly used in the amateur team and only played a brief assignment in the Bundesliga. In the match between VfL Bochum and Hamburger SV (0: 1) on March 9, 1991, he was substituted on in the 80th minute. For the 1991/92 season, Fröhling moved to the lower class FC St. Pauli . There he played in the 2nd Bundesliga until 1995. Within four seasons he played there as a defender 88 of a total of 150 point games. 1995 St. Pauli rose to the Bundesliga. There Fröhling was used once in the 1995/96 season and in two games in 1996/97. Both as a second division team and in the Bundesliga, he scored one goal each. The first division he scored on May 10, 1997 in the home game against Borussia Mönchengladbach . Fröhling ended his career as a soccer player with the regional league club VfB Lübeck at the end of the 1997/98 season.

SC Norderstedt ) as A youth coach and coordinator . In 2007 Fröhling applied to the league club Altona 93 , who immediately signed him to the league team for the 2007/08 season. This season he made it to the new regional league. On February 5, 2009, he was released due to economic bottlenecks in the club. In the 2009/10 season, Torsten Fröhling took over as coach of the U23 from Holstein Kiel . From September 16 to October 4, 2009, Torsten Fröhling was the successor to the head coach Falko Götz, who was on leave, as interim coach of Holstein Kiel's 1st team. From 2010 to 2011 Fröhling was a coach at the upper division VfB Oldenburg and then took over the training of the U-17 team of Hamburger SV .

For the 2013/14 season , Fröhling was the coach of the U-21s of TSV 1860 Munich , who played in the Bayern Regionalliga . After Markus von Ahlen was dismissed, he was appointed head coach of the first team of TSV 1860 Munich on February 17, 2015 and was able to maintain second division there after two relegation games against third division Holstein Kiel . On October 6, 2015, he was given leave of absence from the association.

On March 14, 2016 Fröhling became the coach of the third division club SV Wehen Wiesbaden , with whom he managed to stay in the league on the last match day. In the 2016/17 season, Fröhling's team was again on a relegation zone after the first half of the season. On February 5, 2017, he resigned as head coach.
