Frank Bartz (born June 19, 1965 in Beeskow ) was a football player in the GDR upper league . In the top division of the GDR soccer association , he played for BSG Stahl Eisenhüttenstadt .

Athletic career

The 1.78 m tall trained electrician Frank Bartz came together with his twin brother Jörg from the fourth-class company sports association (BSG) of the Beeskow chipboard factory to the GDR league club BSG Stahl Eisenhüttenstadt, where both brothers initially played together until 1988. In contrast to his brother, Frank B. was part of the squad of the team that surprisingly achieved promotion to the league in the 1988/89 season. As a left defender, he was instrumental in this success with 30 point games and one goal. In the league season 1989/90 he moved under the new coach Günter Reinke in the midfield and with 20 league games, in which he was twice successful with goals, still belonged to the player base. Stahl Eisenhüttenstadt managed to maintain its top division place for the 1990/91 season. It was the last season of the GDR Oberliga, which, in addition to determining the last GDR soccer champion, also served to qualify for the 1st and 2nd Bundesliga. Frank Bartz played again as a midfielder in 24 of the 26 played point games and was one of the team's offensive forces with his five goals.

During the current season, the company sports community was transformed into the Eisenhüttenstädter FC Stahl club , but missed qualification for professional football. Instead, the team reached the final in the last GDR Cup competition in 1990/91. With the participation of Frank Bartz as left defender, there was a 1-0 defeat against the champions Hansa Rostock, but this enabled Stahl to participate in the all-German Supercup 1991 as well as in the competition for the European Cup Winners' Cup 1991/92 . Bartz was involved in both competitions. In the Supercup, he and his team were defeated by Bundesliga club Werder Bremen 1-0, but only came on in the 65th minute. In the two European Cup games against the Turkish representative Galatasaray Istanbul (1: 2, 0: 3) he was used in midfield from the start and scored the only goal from Eisenhüttenstadt in the first leg.

In the DFB game operations , FC Stahl was a regular guest in the 3rd division for many years ( Oberliga Nordost , from 1994 Regionalliga Nordost ). Frank Bartz was part of the squad until 1999 and after the dissolution of the Regionalliga was one of the record players (3rd place) with 189 appearances. After the end of his career as a competitive athlete, Frank Bartz was back together with his brother Jörg as a recreational soccer player at SV Vogelsang in the Brandenburg state league from 1999 to 2010 . He then joined the FSV Dynamo Eisenhüttenstadt.
