Frank Lindemann (born March 9, 1961 in Halberstadt ) was a football player in the GDR Oberliga , the top division of the GDR football association . There he played for FC Vorwärts Frankfurt (Oder) , for Energie Cottbus and Stahl Eisenhüttenstadt .

Career in football

Army soccer player

Lindemann began his football career as a schoolboy in the small company sports club (BSG) Aufbau / Empor Halberstadt, from which he moved in 1972 to the BSG locomotive , the leading locomotive in Halberstadt . There he played until October 1978 and then did his military service. During this time he first played football in the second-rate GDR league with the army sports community Vorwärts Plauen . At the same time he began a sports teacher degree.

For the 1980/81 season, the 1.79 m tall Lindemann was delegated to the top club of the GDR Army Sports Association , the upper division FC Vorwärts Frankfurt (Oder). There he was nominated for the league team and played his first league game on matchday 4. In the match between FC Vorwärts and BFC Dynamo (2-1) on September 13, 1980, he was substituted on in the 74th minute. Up to the 11th matchday he was used in another four league games, but only once was he for 71 minutes as a center forward in the starting eleven. For the rest of the season and also in the 1982/83 season he was used in the junior league team , with which he was junior champion in 1982. When the junior league was dissolved in 1983, the junior team was continued as FC Vorwärts II in the third-class district league Frankfurt . With her, Lindemann was district champion and promoted to the GDR league in 1984. Until then, he had only played nine games in the major league. Also for the 1984/85 season he was nominated again for the 2nd team. Although he only played 17 of the 34 league games, he was the most accurate player of his team with eleven goals. When Peter Ukrow was the new coach of the first team in December 1984, Lindemann also found more consideration in the top division. From February to June 1985 he was used 12 times in league games, but he was only in four matches in the starting lineup. Subsequently, Lindemann retired from FC Vorwärts Frankfurt, for which he played only 21 league games within five seasons and in which he had scored only three goals as a striker.

First division player in Cottbus and Eisenhüttenstadt

Lindemann moved to the GDR league club Stahl Eisenhüttenstadt, where he initially only completed the 1985/86 season. It was a successful season for him, in which he missed only two games out of 34 games and was top scorer again with 15 goals. This prompted the league promoted Energie Cottbus to sign the successful striker for the 1986/87 season. In the Cottbus team, Lindemann had no difficulty in asserting himself in the top division. From the start of the season he was sure of the position of the left striker and he was only missing in two of the 26 point games. Like the rest of the team, however, he lacked punch, he scored only three goals, Cottbus only 19. That was the worst result of all 14 league teams, and Energie was relegated again after only one season.

After only two missions for Cottbus in the GDR league, Lindemann moved to league rivals Stahl Eisenhüttenstadt during the 1987/88 season, where he played another twelve GDR league games by the end of the season and scored one goal. After a disappointing 15th place Eisenhüttenstadt started a furious season in 1988/89, at the end of which the team rose to the top division. This season started promisingly for Lindemann too. He played the first ten point games as a central striker, but after that he was injured and had to sit out for seven months. Only in the last two league games he was able to make his contribution to promotion. With seven goals in twelve games, he again had a noteworthy goal haul. Even in the league season 1989/90 Lindemann remained true to the injury pitch. Already in the first league game he had to leave the pitch after 37 minutes and only made three more short appearances in the second half of the season.

End of career

In the summer of 1990, Lindemann was reamateurised, left Eisenhüttenstadt and became a player- coach for the West Harz association league club VfR Osterode 08 . In 1992 he returned to Halberstadt, where his former BSG locomotive had been converted into ESV Halberstadt. At ESV, Lindemann was initially active as a player in the then fifth-class regional league, later he became a coach and saw the other name changes up to VfB Germania . For a short time he was the responsible coach of the first men's team, but mainly worked as an assistant coach. In 2009 he ended his coaching activity.
