Harald Leppin

Harald Leppin (born December 14, 1957 ) was a football goalkeeper in the GDR Oberliga , where he briefly stood in goal for BSG Stahl Eisenhüttenstadt .

Athletic career

Leppin began his goalkeeping career at the age of six at the army club FC Vorwärts Frankfurt (Oder) . In 1976, at the age of 18, he moved to the Betriebsportgemeinschaft (BSG) Stahl Eisenhüttenstadt within the GDR district of Frankfurt . There he was initially in the goal of the 2nd team that played in the third-rate district league. Just two years later, the 1.83 m tall Leppin was the first team goalkeeper in the second-rate GDR league . Between November 1981 and April 1983 he had to do his military service and during this time he played again in the Frankfurt district league for the army sports community Vorwärts Seelow. Leppin then returned to BSG Stahl, where he lost his regular position to Holger Keipke between 1985 and 1986 . In the 1988/89 season, the steelworkers surprisingly won promotion to the GDR league, Leppin was in all 34 league games in goal. In the league season 1989/90 he played only the first three point games. Although he only allowed one goal in these games, he was replaced from the fourth matchday on by Andreas Hawa , who was brought in at short notice from Motor Ludwigsfelde . Until the end of the first half series, Leppin was only reserve goalkeeper. From the beginning of 1990 to the end of 1991 Leppin played again for FC Vorwärts Frankfurt or its successor club, Frankfurter FC Viktoria . In 1990 he was once again involved in promotion to the league with two GDR league appearances. In 1992 Leppin returned to Eisenhüttenstadt, where he finally ended his goalkeeping career at BSG's successor club Eisenhüttenstädter FC Stahl .
