Timo Löhnert (born June 20, 1969 in Dresden ) is a former German soccer player. He played for Stahl Eisenhüttenstadt in the GDR Oberliga and for FC Carl Zeiss Jena in the 2nd Bundesliga .

Athletic career

Stahl Eisenhüttenstadt

Löhnert, son of the two-time GDR champion and Olympic participant in the long jump Bärbel Löhnert , began to play football in 1975 for the company sports association (BSG) of the housing and community building combine in Frankfurt (Oder) . At the age of 16, he moved to BSG Stahl Eisenhüttenstadt in 1985, where he had his first league game in the second-rate GDR league in the 1987/88 season . After he had completed his training as a mechanic, he was officially accepted as a striker for the first men's team of BSG Stahl for the season 1988/89. He played 15 of the 34 point games played this season, but was only in the starting lineup six times. Eisenhüttenstadt surprisingly ended the season as a climber in the league.

The 1.78-meter tall Löhnert made 19 missions several times in his first league season, only in the last five league games he was regularly used as a striker from the start. While he only scored one goal this season, he was the top scorer of his team in the following league year of BSG Stahl with eight goals. With 24 game appearances, he was also part of the team in the final independent season of East German first division football . On June 2, 1991, he was the right attacker with his team, now playing as Eisenhüttenstädter FC Stahl , in the final final of the East German Cup , which FC Stahl lost 1-0 to the last GDR champions Hansa Rostock 0-1 . Since Eisenhüttenstadt had only qualified for the third-class NOFV amateur league in 1991 , Löhnert left FC Stahl after completing 59 point games in Eisenhüttenstadt and scoring ten goals.

FC Carl Zeiss Jena

At the beginning of the 1991/92 season, Löhnert joined FC Carl Zeiss Jena, which had qualified for the 2nd Bundesliga as the former East German league team. In the 32 league games of the southern season he was used 29 times and also scored seven goals, but as a striker he was only in the starting line-up in ten games, and in the other games he was substituted early. In 1992/93 Löhnert only played 15 times in the 2nd Bundesliga (1 goal), only started once and did not play a game for the full duration of the game. In Jena's third second division season 1993/94 Löhnert was not used at all. After FC Carl Zeiss had to relegate after this season, Löhnert only played a single point game in the 1994/95 regional league season after a long injury break and then ended his career as a football player in the performance area. In his four seasons with FC Carl Zeiss, he had played 49 competitive games (45 point and 4 cup games) and scored nine goals (8/1).

End of career

As an amateur player, Löhnert was active from 1994 to 1998 for the Thuringian national league club SV Funkwerk Kölleda . When this got into financial difficulties in 1998, he moved to league competitor VfB 09 Pößneck . There he finally ended his footballing career in 2001.
