Soccer career

FC Forward Frankfurt (Oder)

The then 17-year-old defender Olaf Schnürer also belonged to the squad of FC Vorwärts Frankfurt (Oder) , the top club of the GDR Army Sports Association , for the junior league that was revived for the 1983/84 season. With his team he won the GDR Junior Championship this season and completed an apprenticeship as an industrial fitter during this time. Although Schnürer had also been nominated as a junior player for the 1984/85 season, he already played his first point games in the men's area for the 2nd team of FC Vorwärts Frankfurt in the second-rate GDR league . For the 1985/86 season he was officially registered for the 2nd team. Overall he was used in 82 GDR league games for the 2nd team from 1984/85 to 1987/88 and scored four goals. When the first team was relegated to the GDR league in 1988, forward II had to play in the third-class district league in Frankfurt. While Schnürer was playing in the men's section of FC Vorwärts Frankfurt, he was a member of the GDR People's Army . In October 1988 he was discharged from the army, which ended his membership in FC Vorwärts.

BSG Stahl Eisenhüttenstadt

Schnürer moved within the GDR district of Frankfurt to the company sports community (BSG) Stahl Eisenhüttenstadt, whose soccer team also played in the GDR league. On November 6, 1988, he played his first point game for steelworkers. From the 15th match day of the 1988/89 season on he had a regular place in the team and played continuously as a stopper from the second half of the season . As a surprise climber, Stahl Eisenhüttenstadt played in the 1989/90 season in the GDR league. The new coach Günter Reinke now used the 1.79 m tall lace-up in midfield, which, after kicking in the third division ten months ago, showed no adjustment problems in the elite league and only missed three point games over the course of the season. The promoted team managed to stay in the league, so that Schnürer could also play first division football in 1990/91. After the political change in 1989 , this was the last league season of the GDR Football Association. In addition to determining the last GDR soccer champion, it also served to qualify for the three highest DFB leagues. During the season, BSG Stahl transformed into Eisenhüttenstädter FC Stahl , although they missed the qualification for one of the professional leagues, but reached the final final of the GDR soccer cup . In the 0: 1 against GDR champions Hansa Rostock, Schnürer was the central midfielder. In this position he also played in the Supercup game on July 31, 1991 against Bundesliga club Werder Bremen, which FC Stahl again lost 1-0.

Terminals

From the 1991/92 season on, Schnürer played for FC Stahl in the third-class amateur league . Still, he had another high point in his career. By participating in the GDR Cup finals, his team had qualified for the competition for the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1991/92 . However, FC Stahl was eliminated in the first round against the Turkish representative Galatasaray Istanbul with 1: 2 and 0: 3. Schnürer was a midfielder in both matches. After an interlude at Energie Cottbus , Schnürer was active at FC Viktoria in Frankfurt from 1995 to 2004 in the fourth-class Oberliga Nordost . After that he only played in lower class teams in the area of the Brandenburg regional football association such as FSV Union Fürstenwalde (2004/05, association league) and SV Eintracht Frankfurt (2007/08, regional class). In the 2006/07 season, Schnürer returned to Eisenhüttenstädter FC Stahl, who now only played in the association league. In 2009 he rejoined FC Viktoria in Frankfurt, but as a 43-year-old only played in the second team, which he took over as coach in 2010.
