Eumorpha anchemolus is a butterfly ( moth ) fromthe swarm family (Sphingidae).
features
The moths have a fore wing length of 62 to 70 millimeters and are thus just about the largest species of the genus. Their forewing outer edge is slightly serrated and the wing has a uniform, dark pattern. This makes it easy to distinguish the species from other species of the genus Eumorpha occurring in North America . The species is only slightly variable in its pattern.
Occurrence and way of life
The species is distributed from northern Argentina to southern Mexico . So far it has only been caught once in the United States , in Kerrville , Texas . The caterpillars were found in Peru on Ampelopsis ( grapevine family ) and in Bolivia on Cissus (grapevine family).
