John Elliott

John Elliott (* 24. October 1773 in St. John's Parish , Province of Georgia ; †  9. August 1827 in Sunbury , Georgia ) was an American politician ( Democratic-Republican Party ), of the state of Georgia in the US Senate took .

Born in what is now Liberty County , John Elliott attended prep school, then moved to Yale College , where he graduated in 1794. After successfully completing his law degree, he was admitted to the bar and began practicing law in Sunbury in 1797. In this city he also held a number of public offices.

Elliott moved into federal politics in 1818 when he was elected to the US Senate. He took his mandate in Washington from March 4, 1819 and served a full term until March 3, 1825; During this time his party disintegrated into several factions , where he was one of the supporters of William Harris Crawford , the so-called Crawford Republicans . He then returned to his native Georgia, where he died in August 1827.
