John Pendleton King
John Pendleton King (* 3. April 1799 in Glasgow , Barren County , Kentucky ; † 19th March 1888 in Summerville , Georgia ) was an American politician of the Democratic Party , of the State of Georgia in the US Senate represented.
John Pendleton King was a toddler when his parents moved him to Tennessee , where the family lived in Bedford County . In 1815, he moved to Augusta , Georgia, where the youth graduated from the Academy of Richmond County and studied law. After being admitted to the bar in 1819, he practiced as a lawyer in Augusta.
Between 1822 and 1824, King studied in Europe. After his return he worked again as a lawyer in Augusta until 1829 before he turned to a political career and in 1830 and again in 1833 participated in the Constitutional Convention of Georgia. In 1831 he was appointed a judge on the Georgia Court of Common Pleas . Finally he entered the 1833 by-election for the mandate of the resigned US Senator George Troup and was successful, whereupon he entered Congress on November 21 of that year . In 1834 he was re-elected; However, he did not complete a full legislative period, but also resigned on November 1, 1837.
King retired from politics and became a successful businessman. Between 1841 and 1878 he was President of the Georgia Railroad and Banking Company . He was also active in cotton production. In 1865 he served once again as a delegate to the Georgia Constitutional Convention.
