The Effingham County is a county in the state of Georgia to the United States . The county seat is Springfield .
geography
The county is located in east Georgia, borders South Carolina and is about 50 km from the Atlantic Ocean in the southeast . It covers an area of 1,250 square kilometers, of which nine square kilometers are water, and is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Chatham County , Bryan County , Bulloch County, and Screven County .
The county is part of the metropolitan area of Savannah .
history
Effingham County was formed on February 5, 1777 as the 4th County in Georgia and the Original County from the Parrishes of St. Matthew and St. Philip. It was named after Francis Howard, 1st Earl of Effingham , an English nobleman.
The settlement of Ebenezer near Rincon, which has not been inhabited since 1855, was founded in 1734 and was the second settlement in Georgia.

According to the 2010 census, the then 52,250 inhabitants were distributed over 18,092 inhabited households, which gives an average of 2.85 people per household. There are a total of 19,884 households.

31.3% of the population were younger than 20 years, 26.0% were 20 to 39 years old, 28.7% were 40 to 59 years old, and 13.8% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 35 years. 49.8% of the population were male and 50.2% were female.
82.6% of the population identified themselves as white, 13.5% as African American , 0.3% as Native American and 0.8% as Asian Americans . 0.8% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 1.9% to several ethnic groups. 2.9% of the population was made up of Hispanics or Latinos .
The average annual income per household was 63,903 USD , while 10.5% of the population lived below the poverty line.
