Angelos Koronios ( Greek Άγγελος Κορωνιός , born March 16, 1969 ) is a former Greek basketball player .

Player career

Club career

Angelos Koronios began his career in 1986 with the then Greek second division club Peristeri Athens . With Peristeri he made it to the top division in 1989, was under contract for a total of twelve seasons and was also the captain of his team. In 1998 he moved to AEK Athens , where two years later he won the first club titles of his career with the Greek Cup and the Saporta Cup . In the following five years Koronios played for a number of other traditional Greek clubs such as B. PAOK Thessaloniki or Olympiacos Piraeus , where he ended his active career in 2005. In all of his stations, Koronios has always been one of the top performers and outstanding actors. An expression of his outstanding position in Greece's basketball history is the fact that he leads the A1 Ethniki statistics for points scored (7,080) and is only surpassed by Dimitrios Diamantidis in assists (1,264) and steals (583) . He also scored the most three-point throws (828) of all players ever active in Greece. In addition to Fragiskos Alvertis and John Korfas , Koronios is one of only three players who can show more than 600 successful three-point throws in the Greek A1 Ethniki.

National team

Koronios made his debut with the Greek national team on December 22, 1988 in a game against the Yugoslav national basketball team . In the game that Greece lost 67-98, Koronios scored seven points. In the following eleven years he was always a member of the national team and took part in two European championships and one world championship. In 1999, after an encounter against Lithuania , Koronios resigned from the national team after 104 appearances and 938 points (9.02 on average).

Coaching career

Immediately after his active career, Koronios took over the coaching position at the Greek club Alimos in 2005. After one season he moved to the traditional club Sporting Athens, where he made promotion to the first division after just one season. After the promotion, the then president of Sporting, Dimitrios Drossos, took over the first division club AEK Athens and took Koronios to his new club.
